2 Questions About The Coba...

We are considering the GBP Coba for a family vacation. Two questions: (1) Is it true that the buffet at the Coba has AC but the other buffets at the resort don't? (2) How far a walk is it from the Coba to the beach - 5 minutes, 10 minutes? 15 minutes? Is it so far that you have to take a shuttle?

We were at the Coba in June in a Club Golden room near the Premier Lobby and the walk to the beach was about 10 minutes. The buffet at the Premier Lobby was not open while we were there, but we did visit the buffet at the Coba main lobby as well as the one at the Akumal lobby. Food and service was excellent at all buffets and a la cartes.

Pretty much what Big_Bruce72 said -

(1) They seem to use the AC when it gets very hot, otherwise they use the fans and natural ventilation - when they do this the outer tables with fans directly over them are a good choice

(2) If it is hot or you have lots of stuff (or children) you may prefer to take the shuttle than walk in the sun. Not really worth it from the Golden/Premier lobby but a better choice the further north of that you are.

Overall they need more AC!

We stayed in Villa 1 in the Coba section - good location. 30 sec. to pool, 30 sec. to snack bar, 1 min. to dacquiri bar in the premier lobby - this is also where you can catch the shuttle. Walk to beach from villa 1 was about 8 min. or so, not bad. About same walk to Coba Buffet. The only downside to villa 1 was the live music at night until around 10:30 or 11:00pm @ the Dacquiri bar - the bass/drums could be heard in our room. Not good if someone wants to go to bed early. Other than that, we thought the location was great!

As the previous poster says, villas 1-4 are the closest, and 8 minutes is a good estimate of walk to the beach time. And if you end up in one of the furthest ones like 16-17 then you could probably double that time. You really want to avoid the back side of 16-17 as they are very close to the highway. See map:
