Snorkeling off the beach

We have visited ABR and Now Sapphire. ABR has excellent beach snorkeling and Now Sapphire has nothing but jelly fish, see grass and garbage. We would like to return to Akumal to a more upscale hotel (ABR is great but only 3 star at best) Any suggestions for nice hotel and nice beach snorkeling in Akumal? We are a family of 5-3 teens- who are all certified divers. Diving is no problem in the Akumal area but we love to snorkel right off the beach.

Thanks

The Palladium has some very good snorkeling. I was with some friends in Feb. who are avid snorkelers. They usually leave the resort for additional snorkeling but said it was so good this time around that they didn't leave in the 2 weeks they were there. There is deep water snorkeling off Kantenah near the ropes and more shallow snorkeling off White Sand where there are shallow reefs.

The Palladium recently won the Golden Apple award and has won numerous awards for its comitment to the environment and for its food handling and safety. It consists of four resorts. Guests at all four resorts can use all amenities including unlimited ala cartes. There is a teen club and lots of activites organized for those who like to keep busy.

I have been there many times with teens and can highly recommend it

We stayed at the Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya last December with our then 14 and 15 year old, the snorkeling off the beach was very good, we went every day, we then paid 10.00 each way and took a cab over to Akumal Bay and snorkled, we saw the amazing sea turtles and all kinds of fish, we walked the beach, it was great, we all loved the resort and we have just booked for a return trip January for a week, the kids are already looking forward to it, of course so are we,

Snorkeling off the Palladium beach is pretty awesome with many species. We were there with our grandchildren and they had the time of their lives. Some of the fish that come very close to shore are guite large and beautiful.

You may find this snorkel map of the area useful. It shows the best spots in front of the resort. I pulled it off the addicts site for you.

Was at Akumal bay yesterday, some good snorkelling in front of the dive centre but you have to go out a fair way to see the giant turtles, but it was definitely worth it. Don't bother with the organised tours, if you have your own gear.Best to go early morning to miss the crowds. We did it by taxi, you can get one back under the arch just behind Dive centre.
