Are there any bIke trails around Florence, OR?
I am considering bringing our bikes with us when we stay there this summer for a week (Dad and son, 10).
I meant "bike" trails, Sorry.
Do you mean mountain bike stuff or paved bicycle lanes ?
I mean paved trails, or unpaved fairly level. This is for a kid (10).
The just finished widening and creating bike lanes along Rhododendron Drive.
Miller Park has an asphalt paved path around the perimeter of the park that is open to bicycles. Please be courteous when overtaking walkers on the path in Miller Park.
There is a short but very nice paved bicycle path that starts at the parking lot of the abandoned Rite Aid store next to Abbey's Pizza and goes across Spruce St near 12th St.
Are there any bike trails near the ocean (like the Seaside promenade), or along the river?
No, Florence has a somewhat strange layout that puts the main part of town apart from the beach. Many of the residents have bicycles with huge tires, tires that are much larger than the old fat tire beach cruiser bikes, that are designed to travel over sand for that very reason. The beach at Florence is at the edge of town about a half mile from town as the crow flies but about 3 miles by street and there is no street or path running along that beach. The long, sandy beach is excellent to stroll on or ride the specially equipped bicycles previously mentioned.
Would you know, are there any bike rental places there (with the huge tire bikes)?
