A visit to Hamanassett B & B

My husband & I will be staying 2 nights in June to celebrate our anniversary/see Longwood Gardens. Any dinner recommendations (fairly close by - didn't really want to drive to Wilmington for dinner). I noticed the Dilworthtown Inn looks nice; I don't know if my husband was planning to pack a jacket & tie for this trip. Would a dress shirt/pants be acceptable for summer evening attire or should we be looking to dine somewhere more casual? We're mostly interested in great food. A nice, intimate atmosphere would be a plus! Thanks in advance for all responses!

Dilworthtown Inn is lovely. While the website says jackets are preferred, I'd swear I've seen men in open-neck shirts (woven, not the knit kind). Why don't you call and ask how strictly they enforce it?

Other nearby possibilities with similar ambience and equally good food are:

* The Gables in Chadds Ford http://www.thegablesatchaddsford.com (BYOB or wine list) -- GREAT outdoor dining terrace.

* Pace One in Thornbury http://www.paceone.net/

* Mendenhall Inn in Chadds Ford http://www.mendenhallinn.com (food's not quite as good as the two above)

A little more out of the way, but worth considering because the food is SO good:

* Gilmore's in West Chester www.gilmoresrestaurant.com/landingpage.html (BYOB)

* Sovano Bistro in Kennett Square http://www.sovanabistro.com/ (BYOB)

Longwood's Terrace Restaurant Dining Room is actually quite good, too, if not a real "special occasion" place. If you're there on a night with the lighted fountains display, you can have dinner and then watch the fountains at dusk.

Hope you have a great trip!

Hello! I stayed at Hamanassett over Easter weekend 2006 and it was lovely. I would highly recommend Pace One for dinner - it was excellent with reasonable prices and a nice atmosphere. I can't remember where we ate the second night. Take a tour of all of the wineries that this area has to offer and enjoy your trip!
