Driving from Houston to Myrle Beach - suggestions?

We are driving in June to MB from Houston. Any suggestions on which route to take and where to break up the trip? Since this is our 1st trip to MB what would you suggest doing for entertainment besides the beach and golf. Its adults only.

Also we want to stop in Savannah and/or Charleston coming and going. Places to stay or your favorite tours? Thanks!

I would drive to Montgomery, AL for the night. It's about 10 hours. That's enough driving for one day. You could get to Savannah, GA in about 8 hours the next day. I would not go N of Charleston. MB is a great area to visit but Charleston and Savannah offer a lot too. Good luck.

I'm not trying to be obnoxious or anything; seriously, if your not flying to Myrtle Beach why travel all that way for vacation, by the time you drive back home you'll need a vacation before going back to work.

You can look at my past posts, there is more to do here than any other beach resort, period, no other beach can compare to the Grand Strand, from NY and Vegas style clubs, to the neon glare of Kings Hwy, driving down the Blvd at 7 mph to the quiet area such as Murrells Inlet which bills itself "a quaint little drinking village with a fishing problem", whatever your likes, you will find it here.

I see that Axle is still trying to keep folks away from here.

No mattter how you get there. Plenty of options for things to do.

Into gambling. Casino boats leave out of Little River couple times a day.

Fishing. Charter boats, piers or just standing along the shore.

Numerous other boating activities. Supersized jet boats to small dolphin tours. Banana boat rides, jet skies and para sailing. Boat rides out to islands for shelling.

Jeep tours through the area. Kayak tours in the state park and marshes of the area.

Bit expensive but plane and helicopter rides available.

Brookgreen Gardens for a little history and art. Historic Georgetown a few miles on to the south.

Shows. Alabama Theater, Carolina Opry and House of Blues to name a few.

Action shows. Medivial Times and Dolly Parton's new for 2011 Pirate Show. Replacing her Dixie Stampede show.

Golf. Too many courses to name. Mini golf of every theme / style you can think of.

Shopping. Barefoot Landing, Broadway At The Beach, Hammock Shops,Tanger outlets, Market Commons.........

Dining. Plan on gaining a few pounds while there.

New for 2011. Jimmy Buffett's Landshark Cafe and large Sky Wheel along the new Boardwalk area.

Gary.............I'm not trying to keep anyone away from MB. This board is for advice. My personal advice for the OP is to visit Charleston and Savannah. IMO Charelston and Savannah have more to offer than any place on the E Coast including MB. I like MB. I have been there several times but I don't plan to return in the near future. I can visit the finest beaches in America near Destin, FL which is 8 hours drive from my home. There are a lot of fine resorts, restaurants and shops there too.
