Driving from NYC to Frisco, TX.

Would like to make the trip in 3 to 4 days. What would be the best route to take and best places to stop for the night.

Floyd, VA - Fri nite is a hoot at the Floyd Country Store; the Blue Ridge Parkway is nearby

Nashville, TN - Grand Ole Opry on Tues, Fri and Sat nites

Memphis, TN - Beale St blues spots, e.g. BB Kings, and Elvis' Graceland.

Gatlinburg, TN one day, Nashvile, TN. Count on a road trip between them for around four hours.

Not sure if you are looking for good places to stop and see things, or just good places to stop and break up the trip, but if you take the 81 to 40 route, there are a number of places to stop that would satisfy both. Starting from Maryland one trip, we drove to Bristol, on the VA-TN border and spent night, and then drove all the way through Tennessee the next day and into Little Rock, Arkansas, before going into the Dallas area the next day. If you don't want to go all the way to Little Rock, Memphis, as mentioned above, is also a good stopping point with lots do.

If you take 95 to 85 to 20, you stop in Richmond, VA, Charlotte, NC, or Atlanta, depending how far you wanted to drive in a day. Atlanta would probably be pushing it for a day's drive, but if you're looking for a stopover with things to do the next day, it's good. The Georgia Aquarium is amazing! Continuing on 20 headed west from there, you could stop in Birmingham or Jackson to visit historic sites, or continue on to Shreveport/Bossier City, LA for some gambling before heading into Texas.

You didn't say when you planning to do this trip, but if it's in the winter, I would advise going the more southern route. Western Virginia and Eastern Tennessee can get some serious winter weather making the drive less than fun.
