The following is from the TX Travel Guide. You can google any of them for add'l info:

Caldwell Zoo - 35 acre zoo geared toward children

Goodman-LeGrand Home - Built in 1859, stately, antebellum mansion/museum

Hudnall Planetarium - One of Tx's largest

Municipal Rose Garden and Museum

And it is a good zoo!! I guess if it's too cold some of the animals could be in shelter.

You were so specific about the date, I assumed you'll only be there on the one day. There are a few other venues, but they close on Mondays.

If you'll be there add'l days, say so and I'll post the others as well.

I close by down-home Texas style cafe is called the Shed and is located in Edom, Tx. Great pies and food. Couple of cool shops close by in town.

Will you only be in Tyler on Monday 1/17/11 or will it be the whole weekend?

Jake's restaurant is nice and has a rooftop lounge with live music on the weekends. It is closed on Mondays though. http://www.jakestyler.com/thechaveta.html

Shogun's is a good Japanese restaurant where they prepare the food in front of you and it has a good sushi bar. The 2nd location is the nicest and has live music on Saturday evenings. http://shogunofjapan.com/flash/enter.aspx

The zoo is very good! The grounds are absolutely lovely and the exhibits are high quality with natural enclosures for most. As stated, with the cooler weather some of the animals may not be out.

The Rose Garden is beautiful when it's blooming. Right now is too early for a visit to the Rose Garden though.

Tyler State Park is nice but it seems chilly for a visit there to me this weekend. It has some nice hiking trails and many picnic tables.

Not sure what kind of things you were looking for but maybe this will get you started.
