Naxos to Athens Flight

Hello All-

I understand there is one flight daily to Naxos from Athens.

Questions:

1) Is there a flight back to Athens daily ?

2) Approx. departure time if it does.

Thank you in advance,

Bill in California

Hi Bill,

at the moment {literally} Olympic airlines is changing hands into Olympic Air, and the former currently has the only flight scheduled for Naxos. Regarding whether these flights will continue past October 1st is rather unclear as neither Naxos {nor Paros} is showing up on any flight plan here,

On the bright side, Naxos is serviced by excellent ferry schedules, both by conventional {and slower} and fast ferry vessels

Exactly.

Right at the moment it is a bit unclear.

If you plan on flying till let's say the end of 2009, it is probable that Olympic Air will be flying these routes for a couple of months. Still, though, nothing positive. It's only some hours that Olympic Airlines ceased operation and only some hours that Olympic Air started operating. It may take some days or a couple of weeks for Olympic Air to fly to these destinations again.

If it is a request for a 2010 flight, as it seems, the whole thing will clear out in the following months with final decisions on who is flying where.

Is this a query for a flight on upcoming weeks? or a question for 2010?

Yes, until the the bidding {or competition } for the PSO flights is complete, OA will still honor the flights, {article here, a link provided by Heimdall in a previous note},

eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do…

but what I'm not sure is, is Naxos and Paros INCLUDED.

Nevertheless, Postoumios has added in a previous post about the announcement of protection of OA flights as of Sept 29th.

Here is an article regarding this in Greek-

www.in.gr/news/article.asp…

It states that OA will protect its flights on its affiliated airlines, plus its own flights, and refund will be given with ticket {"e" or otherwise} in hand, if preferred

The contact number stated is incorrect, the correct one is in its new site

It's probably safe to assume there will continue to be daily flights to/from Naxos.

The PSO document Dianbiz referenced is one I provided her to show flights to Milos. The document showing flights to Naxos is:

eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do…

It requires six flights per week in winter, and eight in summer. Whchever airline bids successfully for the PSO contract will have to meet those minimum requirements, but timetables may likely change between now and next summer. This summer the eight flights have been one per day Mon-Sat, departing Athens at 1230, returning from Naxos at 1340. There were two flights on Friday, the additional one leaving Athens at 0950, returning from Naxos at 1100.

Let me correct my previous post. I wrote: "This summer the eight flights have been one per day Mon-Sat..."

That should have read: "This summer the eight flights have been one per day Mon-Sun, with a second flight on Friday..."

Here is a reply from Olympic Air,as i sent them a query re Naxos flights.

Thank you for contacting Olympic Air.

Regarding your inquiry we would like to inform you that the flights’ schedule for Summer 2010 have not been finalized yet. Furthermore, for some destinations in Greece it has not been decided yet which air carrier will operate them and Naxos is among those destinations. In any case we would like to inform you that if and when new routings are decided, then they will be available on our website for bookings.

Best Regards,

Thanks grecophile. This clearly indicates IMO that no new bookings re-Paros and Naxos in the future as it currently stands, surely they will honor the ones already made {HOW is yet to be seen because if they do not honor bookings made in advance for 2010 already, then it is to be seen which carrier will,as until up to today, no other options have been offered for this route}

Thanks for the feedback, it seems a timely question, and sounds like the gov. has a hand in the matter.

We will be in Naxos in June 2010, and will need to catch a noon Athens flight back to Ca. But would like to spend every last minute on Naxos, hopefully an early same day ferry, or late ferry the night before. This makes me think to maybe end the trip in Crete, where possible more early AM flights exist.

We've got time for this to play out. Thanks Again
