Sandcastle / JVD: Food & Beverage

Sandcastle / JVD: Food & Beverage

My wife and I are staying at the Sandcastle hotel for three nights in July, and I have a few food and beverage-related questions:

1. Is it acceptable for guests to bring their own alcoholic beverages to the Soggy Dollar Bar and beach area, or will it be frowned upon? We plan to spend most of our three days drinking, partying and lounging on White Bay, and buying all those pain killers for us and new friends might get a little expensive. I was planning to haul a case of beer and some rum from St. John (our preceding destination). Thoughts?

2. What is the drinking water situation like on Jost Van Dyke / at the Sandcastle? Is bottled water readily available on JVD, or do I need to buy it in St. John?

3. How should we plan for three nights of dinner on JVD? Any special tips or advice? We will not be renting a car, but paying for taxis is okay.

Maybe we'll see you there, well be there from June 21-July 2. Yes you can bring your own, no one will say anything, it's common practice. Bottled water is available at pretty much every bar/restaurant on JVD, but anywhere from $2-5 bottle. As far as dinners go without a rental car Sandcastle has pretty good meals, however, you MUST go to Corsairs for at least one dinner. They have the best food in the entire BVI and the service there is not on Island time. Its right in Great Harbor (where the ferry drops you off) so you could walk there or take a taxi (~$5 person). Have a Voodo rum punch there too. Harris and Abe's in Little harbor has great lobster but the cab maybe closer to $20pp. Also Jewl's on W.B has amazing burgers for lunch as well. Have fun

Your 3 days on JVD will fly by. White Bay is an amazing beach, but I imagine you will want to visit Great Harbour, too, in order to experience Foxy's, as well as some of the other places in GH. As noted, Corsairs serves very good food, and we've also had a delicious dinner at Ali Baba's. We've eaten at all 3 of the restaurants in Little Harbour, and they all serve delicious food. We particularly enjoy Abe's, where we carry out a table and eat on their dock over the water. Foxy's Taboo on the other side of the island also serves very good food, and you could stop in there if you decide to see the Bubbly Pool.

At White Bay, Sandcastle serves delicious meals. The best meal we've had on JVD was dinner on the beach at Seddy's One Love, just a short walk from Sandcastle. If you are going to be on JVD on Thurs., dinner at Ivan's BBQ is a lot of fun. Reuben Chinnery usually plays hs 12 string guitar and he is an oustanding musician, here are a few of his songs: www.youtube.com/playlist…

Jewel's and Gertrudes on WB serve very good sandwiches. Perfect Pineapple has opened up a small store just a short walk from Sandcastle where you should be able to get water and other items if you don't bring those things will you.

Here's a playlist of JVD videos: www.youtube.com/playlist…

We've had very good experiences snorkeling WB, at the far left end of the beach from Sandcastle, along the rock outcroppings, and have included a couple of video clips of our snorkeling in this playlist. Enjoy your trip, alashas

Sandcastle offers a potable water fountain near the offices and provides a pitcher in the room. We brought our own bottles and refilled.

We purchased a couple of to go cups at the Soggy Dollar gift shop and refilled them in our rooms with alcohol from the grocery store, no one cares. We also had beer that we carried from our room to the beach. We also brought from home two reusable water bottles as we were on the island for 14 days. If you have a sensitive system dont drink the water use the potable water that Soggy Dollar has to offer. 3 days isnt long enough, you will want to go back! Have fun
