Is there a quiet charming area of Virginia Beach?

Researching Memorial Day weekend beach getaways for my husband, 6 year old daughter & I. We are coming from NYC and considered going North to Cape Cod, but since it's early in the season and we'd love some warm weather, we're thinking south is a safer bet. I'm looking into Virginia beach, but wondering if there's an area that's less crowded and with less high rise hotels than what I'm seeing online. Can anyone recommend an area and places to stay with a more chill vibe, but still has a beach, pool & town with nice local restaurants (we do not prefer chains) or should we think about a different location all together?

Thanks!

Memorial Day weekend at Any beach destination is going to be crowded and busy. Expect crowds and heavy traffic. A chill setting will be challenging to find.

That said consider renting a house at Sandbridge or at the North End (42nd Street and points north). For a unique chill setting check availability for a cabin at First Landing State Park. These will be located across the road from the Chesapeake Bay and within a short distance of some excellent seafood restaurants.

Research water temperatures too. Our Canadian neighbors love swimming at the beach during Memorial Day weekend but many of us residents find it too cold .

Whatever you decide, confirm your plans before leaving home.

You definitely Do Not want to arrive here during one of Virginia Beach's busiest tourist holiday weekends without a Confirmed reservation in hand.

Yes, the older home area would put you mid VB. And North end and Sandbridge would be quieter. Thing is, according to Tourism, thousands of people spend millions in VB Memorial Weekend.

A few reasons. We're further south than the Cape so our season can start earlier with earlier warmth. The actual quieter time would be earlier, say April. Also, instead of an early truly quiet stay Memorial Weekend is sort of the start of summer fun for a lot of people who drive out for the day or the weekend.

That said, VB population increases moreso on weekends. There are other beaches where we used to go to where it was more common to take a week vacation. But in VB it's not uncommon at all to go just for the weekend fun.
