Wheeling Island Casino/Hotel

I received a coupon in the mail hours ago for a $49 room rate for July 1-10th. I called and was placed on hold for approx. 1 1/2 hrs. I was not busy, so I just held the phone while I did housework, etc. I started out as the 28th caller. When the operator answered, she told me there was only ONE operator on taking calls. I told her I figured that. I proceeded to give her my coupon and players club info, and she said they had no rooms available. Seriously, I did not mind waiting on the phone, I DO MIND them having ONE operator, and NO ROOMS for the advertised "special" only hrs. after I got the coupon. This special is a scam, and now 6 of us WILL NOT be going to that casino, and it will not be able to compete with the new ones (I hope).

That's a shame, and sounds like poor customer service. I don't know anything about the hotel (never stayed there), but have been to the racetrack/ casino many times and really enjoyed myself. Have you looked into staying somewhere else in Wheeling or St. Clairsville? It's such a nice area with so much to do, that it would be a shame if you gave up a trip there because of the coupon/ discount foul-up. And you can probably get a good deal at a local hotel that is almost as good as the coupon you were offered.

I would not let it ruin a holiday trip, we will just go somewhere else. The phone number was for the main line to the whole resort, so, to me, the service reflects poorly on the whole resort, not just the hotel.

I mean, we all work in the public eye...who would actually say "they had just one person answering the phone". I was TWENTY-EIGHT in line at the beginning of the call. Just does not make sense. It makes me think "what if they have just ONE person preparing food, or cleaning rooms", etc.

Since THEY sent ME the coupon, they should honor it. I don't consider it a foul-up, because SOMEONE made out the work schedule with one person working the phone, after thousands of coupons were sent out. It's like you said...it's simply POOR customer service, and apparently they can afford it, for now.
