Calm beaches spring break

We are going to Kauai during spring break and would like to stay beachfront on a calm swimmimg beach. I have a 12 year old daughter. Any suggestions? I have read the calm beaches become rough as the seasons change....so what happens in the spring?

thanks

During spring break, I'd look for something on Poipu Beach on the South Shore. Take a look at Kiahuna Plantation if you want a condo or the Sheraton, next to KP, if you want a hotel. They are beachfront to one of the best swimming beaches on Kauai.

Agree with 22kauai. It's a pretty limited inventory for resorts sitting right on good swimming beaches on Kauai. So at that time of the year you should look at Poipu on the south shore . That's the first cut. The second cut is beachfront. This narrows it down even further to the Sheraton, Kiahuna Plantation, Koa Kea Resort or the Marriott Waiohai. All 4 on basically the same beach.

Two of my favorite calm swimming beaches are Lydgate Beach (the pools at the north end of the beach) and Poipu Beach. There are many hotels/resorts in the Poipu area. In the spring the ocean is usually calmer than in the winter. High surf season ends around February/March.

Thanks everyone.....Our spring break starts March 9th which is actually still winter so wasn't sure how to determine where the calm beaches are

at that time. sounds like Poipu is calm year round and should be fine.

someone mentioned Salt Pond on the west side. Any thoughts on that?

Salt Pond Beach Park usually is safe for swimming. It's a popular place to camp, but there are no hotels or condos there.

Salt Pond is a great place to swim year-round. As 22kauai said it's not a beach with lodging on it or even walking distance to it. But its a great beach to visit if you're staying in Poipu. Figure a 20 minute drive from Poipu. Add 5 minutes because most people miss the turnoff their first time. Poipu is your best bet for resort areas for good weather. But if some bad weather rolls in you can usually count on it being better at Salt Pond Beach.

Your date of March 9th would still mean better weather and swimming on the south shore.
