Which bars to go to on St. Pattys DAY - help

We will be staying in the financial district at the hilton. Can anyone help us out with some near by pubs we should hit on St. Pattys?

We are also willing to take the train to other "cant miss" areas.

Like:

Bands (classic rock)

Dislike:

club atmosphere

dressy dress code

I also hear to get to the pubs early b/c of the crowds, what time is good?

Does everyone wear green? (may be a dumb question) ''/

Everybody wanting to celebrate saint patrick's day usually wears something green ... you don't need to be dressed in head to toe green ... but you will see that ... you can buy a plastic shamrock lapel pin for a $1 or two, and that will work. Just be yourself.

I'd recommend going to the Garden area (Hockey East tourney will be going on, so it will be a fun crowd), and avoiding Fanueil Hall.

Wonderful, thank you! When you say garden area, do you mean near the "pubulic gardens"?

They meant TD Garden, where the Boston Bruins and Celtics play. But that's a very sports oriented area when games are going on. I disagree about not going to the Faneuil Hall Area. That's where you'll find the biggest "buzz", you can hear music spilling out of the pubs and the area will be very festive. Crowded? Yup. Cover charges? Yup. Fun? Yup. If you're looking for St. Patrick celebrations, that's the place.

If you go near the TD Garden, check out West End Johnnies.

Just keep in mind that the places in Faneuil hall are small, older and most likely will consist of people who have been on the same bar stool, every St Patrick's Day for their entire lives. Laying down $10 to $20.00 bucks to walk in, can add up quickly.

If you go to Faneuil hall, you may want to check out The Purple Shamrock. One of the local stations is reporting, that The Shamrock will soon be closing, after 30 years of business.

The Purple Shamrock has been there for 30 years?!?! Wasn't Bette's Rolls Royce in that location prior to the Purple Shamrock? Wow! I'm old!
