Kayaking To Antelope Canyon From Lake Powell

Kayaking with or without a guide to Antelope Canyon from Antelope Point Marina - how much of the canyon do you actually see? Do you see enough to skip a hiking tour of the canyon? Thank you.

You won't see any of the slot canyon where land tours take place. That is miles away.

Some things you need to know about kayaking on Lake Powell and getting to Antelope Canyon. To get there, you'll need to share the main channel with a lot of boat traffic from PECs to speed boats going full tilt and tour boats. The main channel from Antelope Point marina to Antelope Canyon has cliffs on both sides. The water is very choppy and the waves bounce off the cliff walls. Not ideal kayak conditions. Also, the water side Antelope Canyon is nothing like the landslide. It isn't a slot canyon and is miles from the slot canyon. If you want to kayak on Lake Powe, I suggest you go with a guide service. It's easy to get disorientated because to someone not familiar with lake the land forms can all look the same.

Ditto what Connie B & RedRox said, if you're expecting to see the "classic" slot canyon scenery that Antelope Canyon is so famous for, you won't see it from the water. You'll still have a good time, but as Connie B says, you have to contend with a few inconveniences as a result of sharing the lake with a ton of boats.

If you still want to see some of that "picture-postcard" slot canyon scenery, but aren't keen on dealing with the crowds in Antelope Canyon, you might consider touring one of several alternative slot canyons in the area that are just as beautiful, but less crowded. antelopecanyon.az/antelope-canyon-alternativ…

Some other slot canyons that the above piece doesn't mention are Wind Pebble, Ram's Head and Ligai Si'Anii, which are managed by Ligai Si'Anii Tours. http://www.hikingslotcanyons.com

We kayaked Antelope Canyon yesterday with Hidden Canyon Kayak tours. It was great. Clint was our guide and was informative. He also gave us several places to climb up the cliffs and jump off into the water. Really beautiful and I recommend leaving out early like us at 6:30am. No boat traffic at that time very peaceful. When we were going back about 9:30am saw few boats but when we were back at Antelope Marina at 10:30am tons of boats were getting in the water. Afterwards we drove to Upper Antelope Canyon tours and did the mid day time beautiful.
