Hotel walking distance to GREAT bars and nightlife

Hi there,

I am trying to plan my bachelor/bacherlorette party for New Orleans. Where would be a great location to stay that we can walk to the famous bars and nightlife you hear about. We are in our late 20's and early 30's but want to check out all of the cool places everyone talks about and get the famous drinks we hear about. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. We don't necessarily need something fancy. But something nice, like a holiday in, etc on or near bourbon street would be great! Thanks!

Royal Sonesta on Bourbon or Frenchmen St. Inn on Frenchmen. Both are different areas and have different venues. It depends on what your group is interested in.

If you want to stay on Bourbon Street, here are a few choices: Royal Sonesta, Inn on Bourbon, Bourbon Orleans. A less expensive option but only 1/2 block off of Bourbon Street is the Hotel St. Marie. Have fun!

One of the good things about New Orleans is how walkable it is. There are probably 20+ hotels I would consider to be within walking distance of Bourbon Street. There's no need to be "on" Bourbon Street unless you really want to be.

And keep in mind that Bourbon Street is one small part of what makes New Orleans...New Orleans!

Can you give your dates of travel and budget per night? That will make it much easier to recommend places.

There are two primary concentrations of "nightlife", which in New Orleans also includes some of the daytime. The traditional and historic area is "Boubon Street". A more recently evolving music/bar/restaurant area is referred to as "Frenchmen St.". Inn on Bourbon is considered ground zero for the Bourbon St. action. Bourbon Orleans is also close to the concentrated party action. Both of these hotels are also RELATIVELY close to the Frenchmen St. area.

However, as mentioned above, there are several dozen hotels relatively close to the action portion of Bourbon St. If you are using a particular location or address to search for a hotel, and want something close to the Bourbon St. action, and somewhat close to Frenchmen St., the closer to the intersection of Chartres St. and St. Peter St. (700 Chartres St.) the better. If you want to concentrate on the Bourbon Street action, the corner of Bourbon St. and Toulouse St. (600 Bourbon St.) would be your landmark.

If you want to be on Bourbon Street, there is no better location than the Inn on Bourbon, which is "ground zero" to everything. Keep in mind that it takes about a 1/2 hour to walk from one end of the Quarter to the other, so pretty much everything is within walking distance.

If you want Bourbon AND Frenchman, I'd recommend the lower Quarter such as Bourbon Orleans, Place D'Armes, The Hotel Provincial, Villa Convento, or Le Richelieu to name a few, as they are closer to the "middle" of both.

"something nice, like a holiday in". I laughed at that. The Holiday Inn in the French Quarter is one of the worst hotels there lol. Don't stay there unless you get a great deal on Priceline.

The Best Western Landmark French Quarter was just renovated -- visiting family stayed there recently and loved it. Great prices, too. It's blocks away from Bourbon Street -- close enough to be close to EVERYTHING, but far enough away to "escape" when you need to.

Bourbon Orleans would be my second recommendation, if you do want to stay on Bourbon. You should also check out Melrose Mansion -- close to Bourbon St AND Frenchmen St. (where the best live music clubs are).
