Which area/suburb in Cienfuegos is best to stay in to be in the midst of it all and walking distance from most of the must sees?
Check out Hotel La Union Nice restored spot dating back to 1869 In the heart of the city
Basically 2 hotels in town.... La Union & Jagua. La Union is the nicer of the 2 but suffers from noise from Benny More next door & the clock bells every 15 mins through the night :)
The Historic Center of Cienfuegos is the best area to stay and be close to the main attractions, I recommend the elegant and comfortable "Hostal Lagarto Ciudad", located in the heart of Cienfuegos and just a few meters from the main tourist and cultural activities of the city.

It depends! It is also a good option to stay around the Viazul Bus Station which is very convenient. There you will be 6 blocks from the 37th St. (Prado) and the walking is very nice. There are a lot of casas particulares around. Right across the bus station is Marilope Hostal, Los Gallegos, Yami & Julio and La Casa Azul.
We stayed for three days in Alba and Roberto hostal (there is in airbnb) The hosts were very friendly, a room nice, comfortable and clear and near Malecon and historic centre. Roberto picked up us in Havana airport to Cienfuegos and then provided us with car and drivers whenever we want to go. It was a marvelous stay!
