Waikiki Shore Condos/ Confused

I am so confused about this.

Booked for 10 nites mid to end of May 2012.

Have stayed at the Reef, but for what we want ( Oceanfront---maybe Oceanview ) have been looking at the Shore for condos as significantly cheaper & might be able to save a bit with their kitchen facilities.

The thing is with a condo I really want to see what we are getting before we book.

I have looked at vrbo & castle & captain cook & lots of trip advisors have provided me with lots of great information ( Thanks everyone ).

With Captain Cook it seems certain you get a specific apt. with a number...........

but with Outrigger/Castle that is not the case.

We want either a studio or 1 bedroom...........above the palm trees , closer to the beach than the street.

Sooooooooo any more advice you can provide ...thank you.

Hi rangerjohn - we stay at Waikiki Shores every year - love the extra room in the Condo, plus the full kitchen and the lanais must have one of the best views going, particularly on Friday (fireworks) night. With Captain Cook and VRBO, you can select your Condo - much better - you know exactly what you get. Generally, there are considerable photos of the actual Condo you are renting and a full description of the amenities. The low numbers (00;02) are nearest the beach, going back to 18. The one bedroom condos are open plan with the bedroom within the living area, generally with a divider to separate areas. I would suggest booking above the sixth floor - the views just get better the higher you go. Depending on your budget, there are some 2 bed oceanfront condos that offer almost certainly the best views in Waikiki. Have a great stay.

With booking through Outrigger/Castle I believe you can use the pool, and facilities at Outrigger Reef Resort. You can't unless noted otherwise on vrbo

This property has two main management companies.

Castle has the reservation desk in the building. Those using Castle do not have use of the pool at Outrigger Reef.

For Outrigger rooms there is no reservation desk on the property.

"Guests are asked to call 808-922-3871 at least 15 minutes prior to arrival. A guest service representative will greet you on-site, escort you to your accommodation, and complete your registration in-room. When departing, guests may use express check-out. Please leave keys in your room and a copy of your bill will be mailed to you."

Those in Outrigger rooms do have use at the Outrigger Reef pool.

There are other condo owners that chose not to have Castle or Outrigger as their management company. They either rent their own units out themselves or through a small management company.

You can find these on sites like VRBO or Captain Cook. You will get a specific unit this way.

Basically the units managed by Castle and Outrigger are condotels. These are condos operating like hotels. You won't get a specific unit as these are operated like hotels.

Perhaps late at night you do check in at the Reef, I don't know.

Until Waikiki Beachwalk opened, you used to check in at the Reef.

Then for a short time, I think you had to check in at Outrigger Regency.

Now it is with a phone call & someone will meet you at Waikiki Shore.

So call the number as you are leaving the airport. Should take about 20 minutes from the airport to Waikiki Shore.

At least you know before hand.

This is how we understand it. If you book with Castle then you check in at Waikiki shores reception. If you book with Outrigger, then you check in at the Reef - there is a walkway in the Reef (next to the elevators) that leads you to Waikiki Shore rather than dragging your luggage all over the place. if you book with Captain Cook, they meet you in Waikiki Shores lobby. If you book through VRBO, the owner or their representative meet you in the WS lobby. When the Reef was being renovated, Outrigger checkin was 200m down the road at the other Outrigger. I still suggest you go with VRBO or Captain Cook - you know what you get through photos and descriptions on their website and, from experience, the photos and descriptions are accurate. Cheers.

OK everyone, here's what it really is at the Shores. First, it is great and we have stayed at it five times, and are CURRENTLY at the place. We always book through Outrigger. You go to and make a very easy park at the Outrigger Regency on Beachwalk (not the Reef anymore, that's old). They check you in and then it is less then a block to the ORW Shores. We always have a rental car so we do the Shores underground parking at $17 per day. If you are arriving by taxi then the Shores will bring you to the Shores with a golf cart, again, it is less then a block.

Ranger, feel free to PM me. The ORW Shores is great and the use of the Reef property is super.

You're certainly welcome fliggr. Ranger, note my PM.

There are lots of great places on Waikiki, this is certainly one of them.
