First time to DR. We are Canadians and would like to know if we have to bring US money to exchange to peso's or will they exchange our Canadian Money at the airport and hotel.

They will exchange Canadian $ , but hotel or airport will give you the worst exchange rate.

Best rate to get Pesos is via ATM or Western Union, Caribe Express and other money stores.

You get very bad rates at airport and hotel. And yes you can change CD to RD without getting USD

As a Canadian your most stress free way of doing things is getting Dominican Pesos from your bank, enough for the first few days or so, or whatever you feel comfortable carrying with you, and then just use ATM’s for the rest of your vacation. Your bank will provide you with a good amount of small bills for tips etc.

Canadian dollars are not as common here as US dollars or Euros, so unless you go to an actual bank, you will get a bad exchange rate. The best is either to get pesos at your bank in Canada, or withdraw from an ATM in Dominican republic.
