Grand hotel Paraiso Riviera Maya

Hi we are a 45 something yr old couple going to the above hotel on 10/09/12 for our 1st anniversary. Is anyone else going to be there around that time. It would be great to meet up. Also any general tips would be greatly appreciated ~ 1st time to Mexico. Thanks

Tips - a chocolate martini made by Humberto (he works either the lobby bar or music bar). A cucumber mojito made by Daniel (pool bar). But give him time to get the cucumbers. A lot of the buffet food is not labeled, but be adventurous and try some of it. Go over to the shopping center and get tacos and crepes. It's part of the all inclusive. Take in some of the shows. The dancers and singers are very good. The cooking class on Wednesday is fun. Go to the spa pool. Tip the staff. They work hard and deserve it. Have a great time.

You will love the Grand! Here are a few more tips:

Try the outdoor grill for lunch. They make great grilled burgers and chicken. The Caesar salad is also good.

The indoor spa is very relaxing. There are different water spouts and a stand up jacuzzi. They play underwater music, too!

Tony's restaurant serves great steaks and seafood. Be sure to try the seafood appetizer!

Take a bike tour and see all of the other resorts in the complex. Each is unique and beautiful. The lobby and lobby bar at the Lindo are really neat. The main bar at the Maya is a must see.

The magic show at the Grand is good.

Room service is good at the Grand. I like the Club sandwich with sliced turkey (real turkey, not pressed meat). It's also nice to order breakfast and eat out on the large balcony!

Don't forget about the pillow menu! The butler can bring you different pillows off of the menu.

We prefer the menu at the Asian restaurant, rather than the Hibachi table. You can order sushi, too.

Try the menu at breakfast for a change from the breakfast buffet. You may have to ask for the menu as they don't always provide it at breakfast.

One one of the nights, can't remember which, they have tables and 2 stages set up around the pool. They have singers and dancers performing. It is a nice evening.

Make your restaurant reservations by e-mail so you can be sure be able to try all of the different restaurants. They will allow you to make a couple of them ahead of time and the rest when you arrive.

Have a great 1st anniversary!

In our opinion you have picked one the best places to stay for your first holiday to Mexico. We are returning to the Grand on 9th sept 2012 for 2 weeks. This will be our 3rd visit to the Grand in the last 2 yrs. We have been to Mexico 6 times in all so far. Hubby is 45 and I turn 49 next month. We are going with hubbys sister and brother in law who both came with us to the Grand last sept. Like us they really loved the place. Top shelf brand drinks, friendly staff. The place is very clean. No one wearing track suits or football tops there., but its not stuffy. Feel free to ask us any questions about Mexico or the Grand.

My top tip, which helps every time we go! Take a photocopy of your passports, write your flight number and the name of the hotel on the photocopy.. Carry this in your handbag with a couple of pens, it's a huge help when you're filling in the Mexican Tourist Card.. Make sure you do it before you leave the plane, the amount of people you see trying to fill it out on the floor of the airport.. if you search Map Chick she has an example of the forms. One form you do for each person travelling and then there is another family customs declaraion.. You'll fall in love with Mexico

You will be close to the town of Playa del Carmen..........you should visit there.......it's lively and a lot of fun....approx. 20 min. drive....you can take a shuttle from the hotel, or the Lindo lobby...$5.00 per person each way...if you ask at check in they will give you the shuttle schedule...................
