My partner and I have just returned from a fotnight's holiday in Mykonos.
This year we stayed at the Cyclades apartments...last year we stayed at Anemos apartments just over the way and whilst I do agree with other post writers that Poppy and family are lovely and hard working, our experience of the rooms there weren't as good as other people's.
Having stayed at Cyclades this year we felt they were much better in that they were cleaner, lighter and more spacious. The owner Elefetera (I am almost certain that is not how you spell it!) is Poppy's sister in law and she is as lovely as Poppy herself. The whole family are great and make you feel most welcome.
We were disappointed to see so many empty properties in Ornos and feel it is sadly a sign of the times and the economy. The resort did lack a selection of comfy bars where you could sit and poeple watch and this seemed to be the opinion of several other holiday makers we spoke to.
We used the loungers near Ithaki as this end of the beach seemed much more quiet than the other end and played greek music rather than the thud, thud, thud that seemed to be coming from the other end. We ate lunch most days at Ithaki and found them most welcoming the only down side being that one day we did find a piece of glass at the bottom of (luckily) our decanter of wine and although they did not charge us for the wine once we pointed it out to the waitress...we did think an apology might have been offered...however this did not put us off eating there as we realised it was a mistake and the food certainly was good.
We also ate at Porto Ornos on the corner but felt that the food was not as good as it had been the year before and it certainly had less choice on the menu than the previous year...it was also at times nerve racking as the kitten belonging in the adjoining bar was constantly playing "chicken" on the main road...apparently one of it's siblings had lost the game a week earlier!
Whilst there we took the boat from Ornos to Elia beach and although we named our day to Elia and back (the boat was overcrowded by the second stop along so it made the hours journey very uncomfortable and Elia beach seemed overcrowded and posy...we got the bus back to Mykonos town rather than waiting for the boat) we did actually laugh a lot at our plight throughout the day so all was not lost.
All in all we had a great holiday and we do intend returning to Ornos.
