Hi Everybody,

we are about to leave for our third trip to LK, and this time we are planning to have a more relaxed holiday, basically trying to “fill the gaps” of places we haven’t yet seen, and spending as little time travelling as possible (public transport preferred)! We have already seen most of the main sights (in the area and around we have already been to Dambulla, Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura, Mihintale, Ritigala, Batticaloa, Jaffna, Ella, Minneriya park, Kandy, Nilaveli and some other places), so now our plan is to spend the first 3 days near Wilpattu, just hiking in the countryside, from there we’ll stay a couple of nights in Nikaweratiya (at Buddhi Samudra), and use it as a base to visit Yapahuwa and Panduwasnuwara. then we will move to Kurunegala in the morning, have a quick detour to see Ridi Viharaja (can it be done by tuk tuk from Kurunegala?) then catch a bus from Kurunegala to Trinco, where we’ll stay 4 days. After Trinco we’ll go back to Dambulla (even if we have already seen it, we don’t mind a second visit to the stunning caves, and this time for free!) and stay there two nights, using it as a base to visit Aukana and maybe another visit to Sigiriya. Finally we’ll go to Kandy where we have some friends, stay 3 days and from there directly to the airport. Have we left out anything? Have we included places not really worth the effort (we are no history buffs, just curious tourists)? Any suggestion about other more interesting places on the same route? A great thank you to anyone who can help!

Hi there,

Yes good list. If you plan well you can take the train around 8 AM Kurunegala to Gal Oya and then Trinco, a lot more comfortable than bus.

All the best,

No not really. Have a look at the top question on day trips, maybe the Trinco section contains a few you haven't seen yet.

All the best,
