Driving trip Itinerary in Deisetsuzan national Park

Hi

I am going with a group of 3 male friends for a driving trip to Deisetsuzan National Park for 6 nites (1-10-2011 to 7-10-2011)> read from your site to go to Sounkyo, Asisshidake and Tennindake Onsen. We would like to expereince and immerse ourselves into Autumn colours, light hikings, ropeways, Ryokans and onsens.

We will be dapearting from Sapporo on 1-10-2011, and leaving for Sapporo on 7-10-2011.

Let's us have your suggested driving itnierary, the must-dos and and the must-go places on the road.

Cheers

Hiking is possible in Asahidake and Sounkyo after the ropeway up the mt. For Kurodake in Sounkyo, there is an additional chain-lift ride. Popular koyo destinations in the area are Ginsendai, Daisetsu Kogen Onsen, 三國峠, Obako, Ryusei-no-taki, Ginga-no-take and Momiji-dani.

Tenninkyo Onsen is a bit run-down but the hike to beautiful Hagoromo Falls and Shikishima Falls is worth the trip. For onsen stay consider either Asahidake or Sounkyo. Asahidake is less touristy whereas Sounkyo has a bit more to offer as far as sightseeing is concerned.

If you start from Sapporo, you will most probably pass by Asahikawa on your way to the Daisetsuzan area. Asahikawa itself is worth a stop for its famous and popular ramen. And if you still have spare time, consider a drive around the scenic Panorama Road and Patchwork Road in Biei.

Hi William

Thanks for your travel advice! Will definitely do the Biei roads, they are the living postcards. For accommodations, will check out more on Asashidake Onsen but I noticed they are pricier than

Thanks again

While driving in Biei, don’t miss the beautiful Blue Pond. It is just 20 min drive from Biei en-route to Shirogane Onsen. You can take a look at its beauty during autumn in the following:
