I have read mixed reviews on Nojo. Some saying its built-up and full of apartments and not much else, while other say its nice. Thinking goig to a campsite there this June and would like to know before booking. anyone been there? Thanks

Noja is as close to a touristy beach town as there is in Cantabria, with the exception of Suances. In winter it is fairly dead, and yes, in summer there are lots of beach apartments and restaurants, it is not a "quaint seaside town". It has lovely beaches with lots of space, and the campsite is supposed to be good, and is right next to the beach, full of interesting rock formations. Most services there are directed at tourists, no doubt, but it is a nice place to holiday. In June, esp. if it's before the 23rd ish when schools break up in Spain, it should be a nice time, as everything should be open, but not busy. It isn't particularly close to any other towns either, you need a car to go there I would say, especially if you want to do more than just go to the beach and eat, however if this is what you're looking for it's probably perfect. There are plenty of other options along the Cantabrian coast too, what are you looking for exactly, and what are you looking to do?
Edited: 9 years agothank you. I am going with three kids (13,12,8) and hubbie. Looking t say in a smallish campsite with pool - finding it hard to ge one with pool - have spent ages looking at places like commillas and west of there - lots of lovely places but none of the campsite seem to have a pool. Will be doing lots of exploring in the car during the day but like to relax by the pool in the late afternoon. Also would like to be near a pretty town to eat out occasionally and wander about a good market. Spending second week near Saint Jean de Luz in France so would like to explore this area the first week. Any recommendations on campsites (for renting a mobile) near beach and town would be very much appreciated.
You're going to find it hard getting a pool along this coast, as the beaches are so good it's not really a worthwhile investment for the camp sites. If you go further inland, you will find camp sites with pools, it depends really what you're looking for.
we go to playa joyel campsite, it's got 2 pools and it's right next to the beach, it's very good, this will be our 6th time here this year.
We Stayed at La Playa Joyel campsite last year in the last week of August.
This was also the week of the 3 day Noja Fiesta which was fun.
Very chilled great beach for the kids. Very big tidel range which makes for great fun when the tide comes in. make sure you get back from the next Village of Quejo before the tide turns as you get stuck there for hours.
Swimming pool (however you have to wear a swimming cap 2euros from site shop)
campsite is excellent lots of space and playing fields, plus wildlife park - ok.
Great base to explore Santandar and Bilboa and lots of hidden beaches along coast with good restaurants.
Going again for a week this August and taking friends.
Plus a lot cheaper than South of France where we normally used to go.
