Henry Morgan Resort

We are looking at booking H.M. -- however, have some reservations due to the numerous negative reviews. We normally just look for a reasonable hotel with clean rooms. We are not too concerned about having upscale fine-dinning meals, as we usually go out and about and explore other restaurants while there. The reason we are choosing H.M. is strictly the price -- it is substantially lower than the other resorts in the immediate area. Anyone have any input?

We were there last April and it was good. A great spot on WBB and close to many restaurants for a dinner alternative. The rooms were bright and clean...........! We would stay there again......... like a rustic cabin in the Muskoka's idea.

Set your expectations for a 3 star resort and as the Jones' said...rustic cottage like accommodations. You've mentioned that you want to go out to restaurants while there which is a good idea as you'll find the food offered through the all inclusive plan is very limited in selection and variety. The all inclusives in Roatan are NOT like the all-inclusive resorts offered in Mexico, Dominican, etc...they feed you 3 squares a day and offer a limited selections of drinks and that is about it.

what you describe in your post Bonnie T is exactly what friends of ours do every year

they book on the sunwing from Toronto for all inclusive and try to hit a cheap price!! they are more flexible than a lot of folks to just pick on a Thursday and fly on a Monday..

they liked mayan princess a bit better than henry morgan over all,, when both used to be offered by sunwing

but that was in the day when henry morgan was having that direct from Italy route ( I don't think that is the case any more)

but no matter which one they booked they still ate out away from the hotel most times but stayed on site for beach time with the beer already included in their stay price!!

if you go with the mind set to get out and try food else where and not beat yourself up about already supposedly paid for it in the package price, then you will do just fine with accommodations at either

don't expect fine upscale dining anywhere on the island ,, as compared to other hotel all inclusive in other destination islands Its just a Roatan thing!!!!

Agree with Zoey...I think the Mayan Princess accommodations are nicer than Henry Morgan but neither are the ritz and agreed you don't go to Roatan for the food...all inclusive or at restaurants either...it's all about the fantastic offshore snorkeling and diving. You've got the idea that Henry Morgan accommodations are more like a cottage and it usually cheaper than the Mayan Princess so if it saves you some money for meals out than the Henry Morgan should do. The accommodations at Henry Morgan are set back farther from the beach than the Mayan Princess as well. Personally I can't stand big cafeteria type eating rooms and that is how the dining room at Henry Morgan seemed to me whereas the dining area at the Mayan Princess was less crowded and you can also eat within view of the water at the Mayan Princess. Anyhoo your choice.

Stayed at HM last March. Have a cottage near Parry Sound so we are used to 3 star life and specifically did not want 5 star. Close to the heart of the people, their music, good average food. Had a great time and would go again. We had booked and then read lots of negative reviews--panicked! Was reassured by others to expect average everything, nothing fancy and we loved it. Wrote review in March with lots of detail. Don't worry, relax, enjoy, don't let the little things bug you, but use that insect repellent!

Thought of another criteria for booking. If possible stay away from rainy season. You could get lucky or it could be torrential downpour for your entire holiday. That would be a bummer.!
