“Wow! Nice planes!”
Review of Austral Lineas Aereas

Reviewed February 26, 2018

Nice planes. IGR has a weird set up to get to your gate. Pass through gate 3 area, then through Gate 2 area then into gate 1 area. Just keep going, you'll find it. Also they did not let us go through security until the time on our boarding pass, about 45 min before the flight. No idea why, there was plenty of seating in the gate area.

Planes were two across seating with seat back entertainment, for a 90 minute flight. How can you complain? and a beverage service! Took off on time, landed on time.

On the plus side, the flight was on time and the landing in Rio was good. However the in-flight service was poor. The cabin crew were totally uninterested in their passengers and paid no attention to safety, e.g. did not check that seats were in the upright position for landing or that hand baggage was under the seats. In an emergency it would have been a disaster. In addition the aircraft (an Embraer 190) was old and tired and food was basic. I recommend travellers look for alternative airlines.

ERJ-195 is always a good aeroplane to do short haul, very roomy, comfortable, pleasant cabin crew, played with four year old and made him welcome, good all round trip

If nothing else, this makes for a great and most unexpected story. On 12 April we flew from Iguazu to Mendoza with a transit stop for 25 minutes in Salta. Some people got off in Salta and a few got on.

A member of the cabin crew welcomed everyone onboard the flight to Mendoza and suddenly there was a huge commotion behind me. Two people jumped up, grabbed their hand luggage and ran to the front of the plane saying they were on the wrong flight. They ran past the cabin crew and left the plane.

The captain came out of the cockpit and asked the cabin crew what had just happened. They told him that some people got off because they were on the wrong flight. He asked how many people. They told him just two. He nodded and went back into the cockpit and we took off for Mendoza.

First question - how on earth did they get on the wrong flight? When I got on in Iguazu my ticket was checked electronically. Surely that would have been done in Salta too.

Second question - they were sitting on the plane, supposedly in the seat numbers that were on their tickets. The flight was quite full so if they really were on the right flight they were very lucky that those seat numbers just happened to be empty. When they got off the flight they did not tell the cabin crew who they were. They just ran. How did the captain know that their checked luggage was not in the hold? If this had happened in Australia the captain would have had everyone off the plane identifying their luggage before taking off. Mind you, I cannot see how something like this could possibly happen if tickets are being electronically checked.

I would love to hear an explanation from the airline as to what happened both in boarding people without valid tickets and then taking off without knowing who they were and where their luggage was. Amazing!!

On another note, if your flight is less than two hours long they don't give you any food. Iguazu to Mendoza is well over two hours, but the 25 minute transit in Salta made it two flights of just under two hours each. No food was provided in the almost 5 hours we were on the plane and there was no prior notice that this would be the case. Amazing again!

Small aircraft, Embraer 190. Check-in efficient and nice. Boarding - not the nicest or most helpful staff. Departure and arrival on time. Some level of turbulensen the whole flight, i.e. No service of drinks or snacks.
We flew premium economy. Plenty of leg-room, good and wide seats. Old completely non-functioning in-flight entertainment.
