“Very good experience overall”
Review of Qantas

Reviewed 3 weeks ago

The Qantas business lounge at Heathrow was very clean, peaceful and offered a fantastic selection of complimentary food and drink. Staff were very helpful.
After boarding the aircraft, as we had not travelled on Qantas business class before, a member of cabin crew spent some time explaining to us about the facilities (seat functions, entertainment, tray table, storage bins etc.).
All the cabin crew who looked after us were very pleasant - professional, friendly and put us at ease.
As this was an overnight flight, the seat converting to a flat bed (with a mattress cover and blanket provided) was fantastic and enabled us to get some proper rest.
Qantas provide pyjamas, which was quite a novelty for us, but in retrospect I don't think it was worth changing into them! The only place to change was the toilets, which were not particularly pleasant, and there were peak-time queues of people wanting to get changed into PJs after take-off and out of PJs before landing.
We were given a useful amenity kit with moisturiser, hand cream, eye mask, ear plugs etc.
In-flight food and drink choices, and quality of food and service, were excellent. We had a light meal (chosen from a menu) soon after take-off and a great breakfast (which we had pre-ordered on a card before going to sleep) before landing. Plenty of drinks, including bottled water, were provided.
I was just disappointed that the toilets in business class were no bigger (nor cleaner) than economy class toilets on other airlines we have flown with. Also that we were not given the landing cards that we needed for Singapore during the flight - which meant we got sent to the back of the queue at passport control at Singapore because we had not completed these. (On our return Qantas flight to Singapore from Australia, these were provided)

Flying back home out of Vanuatu, (what an absolute debacle), we knew at the time of booking that it may be a code shared airline out of Port Villa, we thought maybe Air Vanuatu. On the flight over from Australia we had quite a pleasant experience with Virgin as I was wheelchair assisted both on and off both flights with no hassles, our baggage was checked all the way through so we did not have to worry about re-checking bags etc. Not so on the return....when checking in, we were not told who the airline would be, boarding passes said Air Vanuatu, however, our bags were only booked through to Brisbane. Our flight turned out to be Air Nauru and it was delayed for over an hour missing our connecting flight back to Melbourne (Qantas did re-book us onto another later flight), but the wheelchair Assistance onto the plane at Vanuatu was a joke, the wheelchair was left out in the rain, no assistance up the stairs boarding the plane and with a hip shortly requiring replacement, that was no joke, I must say that was not the case at Brisbane, the people there were very helpful, it seems it must just be the staff at Port Villa.

Business trip this morning which was comfortable and clean. After my Jetstar experience on the weekend this was a welcome relief. Will be trying to stick with Qantas as much as possible. Checking my bags was seemless - all very convenient.

With all the hype from the airline about how good the Dreamliner flight from Perth to London is - what rubbish! Special air and lighting - didn't notice any difference. So crammed in - seats are narrower than average and they are very hard on the backside, and when the man in front of me put his seat back to sleep, the screen in the back of his seat was about 6 inches from my nose, and there was only a narrow approximately 6 inch space between the back of his seat and my armrest, making it very difficult to get out of my seat to go to the toilet - speaking of which, the flush on these toilets is so loud - impossible to get any sleep under these cramped conditions. Arrived in London early in the morning, having had no sleep in the 17 hour flight, with bodies aching from being so cramped. Please tell everyone not to do it (unless they can afford business class).

Qantas had let their standards drop but they seem to have picked up again and we had a good flight with pretty good service. The flight left on time, leg room wasn't too bad and the staff friendly and professional. The 'snack' served was pretty simple and small but otherwise all good.
