Review of Ryanair

I have flown Ryan air before, not usually very successful as a customer.

However, for the first time in 12 years, this new flight route was efficient and even on time despite the snow blizzard which hit Birmingham airport, 10 hours later.

So, on this occasion, I would like to recommend Ryan air from Birmingham to Sofia.

It is what it is! Cheap and cheerful! The new luggage rules work just fine, but you need to read the blurb carefully and plan ahead.

You are allowed one handbag-sized piece on board, but you can take another small case (check blurb for exact size) which you leave outside the plane and collect at the carousel the other end. Any other case to be checked in or taken on board as cabin luggage has to be paid for.

I took a strap to put round the case to be left at the plane and put it on just before I boarded. So much easier getting on and off and with no worrying if there will be room in the overhead lockers.

If you want something to eat during the flight, buy a Boots/WH Smith meal deal after going through security - much cheaper than food on board and you can eat it when you want!

Excellent flight and excellent service, no complaints about anything, both flights left on time, would fly with Ryanair again.

I've never got the dislike some people have for Ryanair, especially now that they have been cleaning up their act. I'll never love them, but they state clearly what they do, and they do it well. This flight was pleasant, efficient and punctual. All I could ask. They flagged their new baggage policy well in advance and we could ask no more of them. I was even surprised that their newest menu is far better value than what you will pay in most airports.

We have flown many times with Ryanair and are generally happy with the service. This time we had booked last summer. As the date of the flight approached we started getting emails regarding the change of baggage policy. I should have read the changes better as we ended up at the airport with less weight than paid for but with a case that was too big for their "put in the hold free" so we had to pay £80 extra. The flight was on time and as good as you will ever get from Ryanair. One niggle is to pay to book a seat and then watch the scrabble to change seats for all those who did not pay.
