“Messy boarding process at OSL”
Review of Ryanair

Reviewed 4 weeks ago via mobile

OSL-STN. The departure gate at OSL was far too small for the amount of passengers travelling on the flight to Stansted. It was a scrum when an announcement was made for priority boarding, there was absolutely no control on who was let through to board the plane meaning that it was a waste of money for those who had paid extra to board first.

The plus side was that an airbridge was used but only for passengers who were sitting at the front section of the plane whilst those in the rear had to go outside and wait in the cold. The flight was fine with plenty of announcements and the staff were all friendly. Arrival into Stansted was slightly behind schedule.

Warning. If you can fly another airline for $40 more, do it. There are a variety of what I can only classify as "nasty little tricks" to get a few more dollars from you. It is highly likely you will get caught by one or more tricks employed by this airline. I fly world wide over 100K miles a year for the last 20 years. 1st time I have ever written a review on any airline. I was at a hotel in Dublin, with no printer available. Checked in 110 minutes before the flight but was closed out. Then 90 minutes before the flight when I checked in at the airport was charged 55 euro to "check in" ! I had been warned by friends. There are a variety of items the web site will try to sell you. What is glaringly obvious is the cover up regarding this check in fee that was not mentioned in all of the items the web site tried to sell me. There are so many little unique tricks with this airline you are bound to get caught with at least one expense. Fortunately, I can afford the risk, but others may not; hence my warning to you here.

Desperate attempt to to make unique charges, Yet the airline is loosing money and the share price is down!! With any luck they will go bust and leave room for a better more "honest" airline.

Time taken to find and book the flights - less than six minutes.
The airport parking for a few days was more expensive than the flights.
I travel with several budget airlines such as Norwegian, WizzAir, etc, and all have the same baggage policy as RyanAir so I fail to see the fuss.
Before the new rules were introduced I regularly saw people boarding the planes with huge backpacks that took up a lot of overhead space so I actually think it's a good idea to restrict the size, weight and amount of carry on baggage.
As for the flight itself I'm not quite sure what people expect - you board the plane, fly then land and exit the aircraft.

If you want food and drinks then order them, if not then don't - it's that simple.
I overheard a couple expressing their concern about the possibility of RyanAir losing their baggage when in reality it's the airports own handlers that are responsible for loading & unloading and not the individual airlines staff.

On the way back home, we got to the aircraft stairs for boarding when we were informed that the plane would not be flying due to a technical fault and a replacement one will be available within the hour.
Cue moans and groans from some people.
I'm not sure what they wanted, perhaps they would prefer to fly without a functioning navigation system?
A backup plane did indeed appear within the hour we arrived back in Norway only thirty minutes late.
Very tall people should book their seats in the rows that have extra legroom, people complaining about the inflight food & bevarage prices or selection can easily buy what they want at the airport and bring it with them.
Most budget airlines operate with new aircraft as they are more fuel efficient and more reliable than older ones and RyanAir probably have the most modern fleet of them all.

If it wasn't for airlines like this, I and many others wouldn't be able to visit half the places that we do, so love 'em or hate 'em - they provide a good service.
