Recently flew a red eye from Maui to Chicago with a stop in LA. Although we booked Economy Plus seats and had an empty seat between, I could not get comfortable flying to LAX. There's something about United's seats that hits my legs uncomfortably.
We've been Mileage Plus customers for a long time. Even though they devalued their mileage program I still find that United's award program to be one of the friendliest as long as you book well in advance. I've also booked hotels and cars with miles (but it's not the best use of miles). Where the award program falls short is when you attempt to book business/first class seat upgrades using miles. Chances are slim to none.
Ever since I got the Chase Sapphire credit card (I'm now a Reserve cardholder) I book through the Chase Rewards travel portal and try to get the best deal possible using my credit card points and am no longer the loyal Mileage Plus customer I used to be. It also gives me a chance to try different airlines and evaluate them. We're beginning to like Alaska because of their seat comfort and their schedules to the West Coast.
