“good golf & beach. Great location for day trips”
Reviewed 24 April 2012

enjoyed the local area & beach. Usually headed off property to enjoy the local restaurants, which were far better in terms of quality & price.

Room Tip: head to Loquillo Kioskos for better food at half the price

This place shuts down at1130. There is no night life! It would have been nice if we had brought the kids but we wanted some alone time away. Everything is over priced and the staff could use a customer service 101 class. As soon as we arrived we were told our room was not ready and not given a time frame, so I paid extra for a room with a better view that was ready. Everything outside of the resort was great. I had a blast enjoying puerto Rico but not the rio mar. One point of advice and it's major, rent a car online before you arrive. All of the trips are either free or half of what you will pay using the tour service. If possible stay closer to old San Juan, that's where everything is happening

Very quiet and off the beaten path. You really need a car to go off property. The beach was nice and rooms were clean but a little fated. There wasnt a microwave or frig.

When we arrived at the hotel we were informed that a "better" room was available...the associate at the front desk really pushed it and then informed us that it didn't have a bed, but rather a pullout couch!!! We looked at the room and decided not to take it so she put us in our original room which had an ocean view that turned out to be nearly nonexistent due to obstructions between the balcony and the beach (the room was also on the 1st floor). We had to switch rooms yet again and ended up with 2 queen beds but a much better view. Tiny spiders crawled all over our personal belongings when we weren't in the room. We couldn't get towels at the pool without having a stupid little card. My legs got eaten alive by sand flies at the tiki bar on the first late afternoon and drove me crazy for the remainder of the time. I think there should have been a warning about that because when conversing with the concierge I learned that it's very common! Why wouldn't they at least have a sign stating that? The restaurant was very accommodating the first night because we didn't make it down until 10:05 and they stop serving at 10 but they seated us anyway and we had a fabulous meal. The valet was extremely overpriced but we did have a jeep wrangler with removable top and they put the top back on when it rained without instruction which was helpful! We got good information about Old San Juan at the concierge desk. The maids came to our room way too late in the day. Overall I would say that there's a 10% chance of staying here again. The el conquistador looked amazing when we went there for dinner one of the nights (it's in fajardo)

We are used to staying at all inclusives at great hotels...compared to that, this resort was pretty good. We had called 3 months ahead to reserve a refrigerator. Upon check in they told us that they are first come first served and that we would be put on a list to receive one when available. We did receive it that day but had to wait a bit. What's the sense of reserving it ahead of time? Our room was not ready by check in time either. A minor inconvenience but after traveling with 3 kids we needed the downtime. The cabanas by the pool were a great feature...we loved using it. The daily aqua aerobics was fun for all of us...even the kids enjoyed it! They also had daily iguana feeding which the kids loved and jet skis to rent on the beach...($80 per half hour for 2 people $60/one person). Although the food was expensive, it was excellent food. The italian restaurant and Steak restaurant were amazing! The view of the rainforest was beautiful as well. The pool was not the cleanest pool, but there were a lot of people there during spring break. The beach was really nice, but don't expect the turquoise blue water of the caribbean. If you have a rental car (recommended), definitely go to La Familia Bakery 2. It's about a 5-10 minute drive and is absolutely delicious. The donuts are awesome, the sweet bread is delicious and the breakfast sandwiches were amazing. We fed 15 people breakfast for $40. Overall, we had a fun vacation and would recommend it!

Room Tip: The view of the rainforest is just as pretty as the ocean. If you have a low level room facing the...

Hotel stay was a great. Bring your own drinks to the pool as they are expensive on the property. Also Breakfast buffet was $27 each person and it was so so.

Stayed here in November on company trip, so while price was not an issue, we did notice that everything was quite expensive. Rooms were comfortable and clean, beautiful views. Wonderful pool with entertainment and great food and drinks. Iguanas added some interest but were not everywhere as some of our party feared. You pretty much have to go looking for them, so don't fear. Beach was amazingly beautiful. We had a great time.

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms on lower levels are blocked by trees. We were on 3rd floor and were still partiall...
