About four hours relaxed drive from Bangalore city is this quaint hill station Yarcaud. The Lake Forest Hotel retains it's heritage look and feel. The rooms are housed in individual cottages all over the property. We were lucky to get the wooden cabin which has a lovely verandah. The furniture in the rooms are tastefully selected though the toiletry and upholstery could do with a revamping. Personally i would recommend a face lift for the bathrooms..... Its all there but lacks the finish! he weather in the month of January was very pleasant in the day time to cold at night. The service at this hotel was fantastic..... Never a 'no' or 'not possible'......which kind of made up for all the have nots! The dining hall serves both buffet and ala carte meals..... Quite good in taste but limited variety! The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. All in all the hotel is a great getaway for a short stay!

Room Tip: The wooden cabin is amazing and has a nice sit out too!!!

The hotel is set amidst coffee & pepper plantations, cannot get a better location to have solitude and good time with your spouse..Rooms are spacious and have antique furniture. The food is quite good and they serve a sumptuous breakfast ( buffet ) and dinner is served with a smile (though a bit slow ! ). The ambience of the place should be experienced first hand.Yercaud is a nature lover;s paradise and so is the hotel.Yercaud is the poor cousin of the three hill resorts of ( Ooty & Kodaikanal the other two ),but by far the prettiest, least commercial and congested and very scenic.and you are closed to heaven in THE LAKE FOREST HOTEL

The hotel is very close to nature. In th night specially when you are walking around your rooms, you will only listen to wind and the movement of leaves.

Rooms: Pretty big in size and tastefully decoarted in classic theme. Did I say hotel itself is 100+ years old

Bathrooms: Pretty good in size with hold & cold running water and bath area separated from main area

Restaurant: Its good but I would prefer to eat outside as I do not find the items worth my taste

Tip: Pls carry woolen clothes if you are going in November - January

Room Tip: You have to search for a good room as some rooms have dampness because it shares its wall with mount...

The resort is located in the middle of the town, just opossite the lake. I was particularly impressed the way the rooms have been constructed, keeping in mind the environment and the heritage. The rooms are spread across the property, with lots of trees around, the rooms, the doors, and the bathrooms all have ancient furnishing (British times), the main reception showcases some of the century old clocks, lanterns, bulbs and fans. The manager Gopi is a very helpful and takes took good care of the guest. The resort is not very big and does not offer much activities, though during holidy time, Prince (person from resort) entertains all the guest by organising games for about an hour or so. The food quality is average, with decent buffet and A-LA-CARTE choice

Room Tip: Rooms in 500 and 600 series are good, one of the room I think 510 (not very sure) is particularly go...

We had booked a 3D-2N holiday with a club mahindra voucher in this hotel. We had opted to have the hotel pick us up from Salem station. The driver was there on time and was quite polite. He gave us some good information on the surroundings and the hotel/resort. The check-in was quite smooth and we were shown to our room. The room was actually like walking into a colonial british museum. They have tried hard to replicate that era and have succeeded. The downside however was that our prejudiced minds expect the convenience of a 4/5-star hotel and we find the resort lacking. Electricity was downright moody and we had several powercuts lasting 20 minuts to an hour or more at times. The generators were either slow on the uptake or not functioning. We had a very complex looking emergency lamp in the room that we could not switch on despite my having an engineering degree (dont know who is to blame there!).

The food was good overall. We ordered phulkas with some side dishes as we did not want to sit and ruminate on the maida chapathis.. but it happened anyway.. the cold weather combined with the hotel's insistence that they serve all the phulkas at the same time ensured that the last couple of phulkas felt like there was a liberal use of cement in their preparation. There is an additional 25% charge attached to room service which was not imposed on us during our stay as there was a fairly large party that occupied the entire restaurant making it quite difficult for others to fing a table.

This large party was allowed to play some rather ghastly music till about 11 PM which made quite a large dent in our perceived solitude of Yercaud. They do not serve alcohol on the property but allow you to procure it from outside. The optios available are Hotel Shevaroys which is about 100 mts up the road or a wine shop that is closer but you may have to wade through some seedy elements to obtain sub-standard liquor.

The one reason that upset me most during my entire stay was that they provided ice in an ice-bucket and i found some orange liquid at the bottom and pieces of plastic embedded in the ice. It was quite disgusting. I mentioned this to one of the waiters and asked him to let the manager know. I hope he did because no one ever bothered to come down and apologize for this rather unpleasant situation.

The game room is well stocked. They are however short on books and DVDs so you may want to carry your own. The staff are very helpful at times.

Room Tip: We stayed in 602.. it did not have a great view but had a TT table right in front.

We had been to Lake forest hotel .Initially we were given a room that was not clean, the plaster of paris ripping off the roof, after complaining we got a better room.TThe hotel boasts of having family games in the evenning ,however there were no such events.I would say in terms of view Hotel Grand palace is far better. They have an open valley adjoining every room and one could spend time moving around the place and utilizing the spa facility.Lake forest is surrounded by thick vegetation but not great to move around and experience. No spa facility.
Food service is very good .Room service delays little. The furniture were old(antiques) but the cot was shaking a bit .The furniture at the balcony were not cleaned and were dusty .
