En route to Callander we were looking for somewhere to stop and eat and just happened upon the Buttercup Cafe and got parked reasonably nearby.

The quality and selection of food was excellent. I never noticed the specials board until after I’d ordered (it was huge, I must need new specs) but if I’d ordered the spicy cauliflower soup I would have missed out on the amazing vegetable chilli. It was a gorgeously orange meal, including onions, chickpeas, butternut squash & sweet potato served with perfectly cooked rice. The cheese and sour cream were served on the side making this vegan friendly and there were also some lovely crispy tortilla chips. I wish I’d asked for the recipe as the sauce was lovely and not too spicy. My carnivore husband had the burger which he said was lovely. It was huge and looked as if it was hand made and he said it was of excellent quality meat. The brioche bun was a perfect match. The fries didn’t come with the meal but they were a great side order. They were tiny, looked home made, roasting hot and very tasty. They were served in a bucket and paper that kept them piping hot as opposed to the trend to serve fries in mini drier buckets with holes which leave slow eaters with cold food. The staff were efficient, friendly and helpful. We loved this place and can’t wait to find an excuse to go back. Well done Buttercup!

Stopped here on a rainy Saturday on way to Doune castle, busy wee place, no tables when we arrived but offered a booking in 15 min, returned and table ready only had tea and tray bakes but would highly recommend the snickers tray bake. Nice staff, clean facilities. Would definitely go back to this place when in the area.

We went in after being recommended and it was very busy (always a good sign). it was full and about to go away when we were told there was another room in the back. It turned out better as the front looked very busy. Service was good. We had soup and a cake both of which were excellent.

We are delighted to have found this wonderful independent cafe in Doune, a great stop for us while on the road North or South when we travel to Scotland Less than 10 minutes from the motorway, Doune is a lovely village and there is a free car park. Very friendly service, good food which is freshly cooked and some delicious cakes too. Also has some outside seating which makes for a nice spot when the sun is shining.

Diverted off to Doune while on the road North. The Buttercup Cafe is quite special. The venue is bright and friendly, and the food on offer is excellent. We had an aubergine and potato curry and a lemon and courgette risotto from the specials, which were really good, but the main menu looked great too. Will have to swing round here on another trip!
