Hotel Villa Paulita
Ranked #2 of 9 Hotels in Puigcerda
Reviewed 24 July 2015

For relaxation this is a great place. A historic villa overlooking the superb lake at the top of Puigcerda it offers views of the surrounding Pyrenees. You could understand guests being content to pack a good book and remain in the beautiful garden with the occasional visit to the underground spa, gym and pool. That however would mean missing out on the lively town of Puigcerda with its restaurants, Sunday market and crowds of Barcelona residents enjoying the fresher air of the mountains. It was unusually hot during our visit and we were disappointed that our room in the annex building did not have opening windows as we are not keen on air conditioning. The restaurant attached to the hotel was yet another experience...

Room Tip: Rooms in the original villa must be the nicest

First of all, this is NOT a luxury property (as the hefty "normal" room rate would imply). The night we checked in, the AC was broken. Rooms were not habitable. When I complained at the front desk I was told that I could complain tomorrow when the manager showed up but there would be no air conditioning tonight. I then called the booking agent to complain and when they called the front desk. the receptionist claimed to not understand English (same person who told me, in perfect English, that there would be no air conditioning tonight). Miserable experience in a tired, run down property with terrible customer service. And yet somehow, this hotel manages to get away with publishing luxury hotel rates at an "extremely discounted" price. I doubt very seriously that anyone ever pays the "normal" rate claimed by this hotel.

Right by the small lake and next to town center, the rooms are luxrious and the staff friendly. Don't miss their great underground spa with a small swimming pool and jacuzy (no extra charge). Good price too.

We stayed here as part of a group (4 couples) and chose it because of its secure parking on the edge of the town centre. Easy walk into town to explore.
Located by a lake which is well worth a walk around. The grounds to the hotel are lovely grassed & planted borders. Outdoor seating is nice.
The rooms are a tad on the small side but pleasant.
breakfast & evening meals are served in an annex building (the Estancy Restaurant)
Breakfast was basic & rather formal, but the views over the lake are wonderful.
The good:- The small pool & spa area was free. Secure parking underground.
beds were comfortable. Staff helpful.
The not so good:- The key system to open the room door is a nightmare (took ages)
No public bar as such (a small pop-up type bar), but doesn't have any draught beers/lagers & they ran out of bottled beer.

Room Tip: As k for a room with a possible view of the lake.

We stayed 3 times in Villa Paulita and everytime it was great. It has a beautiful lake and mountain view, rooms are very beautiful, clean and comfortable. I think it deserves a better breakfast. Unfortunately they serve bad pastry, bad cooked eggs, it could be perfect with simple solutions.

What a lovely hotel very picturesque we had large pretty room which was nicely furnished and overlooked the lake. We had tea in the bar lounge area which was small but functional. We went for a walk around the lake and explored the town. We ate at the adjoining restaurant and found it acceptable but had to wait ages for our orders to be taken even though we were the only ones in the restaurant at that time others joined us later. The food was ok Breakfast was a little disappointing pastries and break but no fruit. We would return to the hotel but not sure about the restaurant.

A very nice building and great rooms. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We were on a bicycle trip and although we arrived al sweaty and gritty in this luxury hotel we were received very warmly. We had a very, very nice risotto in the restaurant and the breakfast was also very good.

Room Tip: We stayed in the main building which was very nice.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Once a family-owned summer residence, Hospes Villa Paulita has been transformed into a relaxing getaway located in the heart of Puigcerdà, on the shores of its emblematic lake and surrounded by the Schierbeck Park. The hotel combines nature with nurture in three elegant buildings of 38 rooms: An original 19Th century villa complete with French neo-classical elements and two newly built annexes. The effect is an artful composition of historic and contemporary design, a creative reflection of imagination, and an authentic look to the city of Puigcerdà. The best cuisine in Cerdanya can be enjoyed at the Senzone L’Estany, the hotel’s gourmet restaurant with the best views to the lake; which offers a variety of local dishes, a balanced cuisine between sophistication and tradition. And don’t forget the Bodyna Spa, an experience of pure revitalization for body and mind. ... more   less
