We booked a night at Wickwoods Hotel and Spa after seeing the website and glowing reviews, as we thought we would treat ourselves to a quiet night for a good night's sleep, and a relaxing morning with a good breakfast, with the overall aim of getting to my Mum's house early on her birthday.
The room (room 6) was very noisy from external sources as soon as we checked in at 9.00pm, but as the hotel runs a busy spa we didn't think too much about it at first.
However, the noises, including doors slamming, people running up and downstairs, bangs from adjacent rooms, what sounded like furniture being moved, and people shouting from outside, continued past midnight and we struggled to get to sleep.
At just after 1.30am I called the manager on the external assistance number to complain about the excessive noise (the reception is not manned 24 hours), and he said he would call his colleagues to investigate. We had not had any sleep.
We tried to sleep again at 2.30am, but the noises started again, so we called the manager again but the call went to voicemail, so we left a message at 2.50am saying that we were giving up on the stay and were checking ourselves out to go home and sleep there instead.
Upon leaving there were only 3 cars in the car park, so we were at a loss to understand were all the noise was coming from!
The end result of this terrible hotel stay was that we didn't get home until 3.30am, and with so little sleep we ended up getting to my mum's house just before lunch, missing the entire morning with her on her birthday. We really regretted paying £145 for a night at Wickwoods Hotel and Spa.
On the basis of our experience we would not recommend.
