We have been here several times and it's always perfect. Friendly and warm welcome from excellent hosts, very comfortable room, quality breakfasts, relaxing atmosphere, nothing too much trouble and everything done to make you feel at home.

Room Tip: Book early to get a room, it's good so they are popular.

Thank you so much. It was a delight to see you both again. You seemed both happy and relaxed - retirement is suiting you well. Pleased we managed to pull of the surprise from your daughter and it came as such a treat to you both. Best wishes Jennifer

Having failed to find lodgings one evening in Montrose, we pressed on through the countryside until we chanced upon Edzell. The first two B&Bs we checked were full, but thankfully we were directed to the Alexandra Lodge. It was a wonderful! Our welcome was friendly, the lodge was very attractive, and the rooms were quite nice, though ours was a bit small. The proprietors, Nick & Jennifer, were most informative, and armed with their suggestions and the local maps they freely loaned us, we had the best day of exploring an area that we can remember. In fact, we were so reluctant to leave that we added a night to our stay.

The only (very minor) negatives were a lack of a table and luggage stand in our room, and the fact that there was no en suite bathroom.

Highly recommended!

I am very pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. It was lucky that local Highland games were on to enhance the full Scottish experience (including some sharp rain showers). If you do return to Scotland it is usually best to book in advance to allow us to arrange the best room for you, our other rooms are en-suite but as you were aware the village was very busy that night and these rooms were already fully booked. We do have a guest sitting room which is equipped with a table, there was also a dressing table in your bedroom, a luggage rack was available if this had been requested. Our rooms are reasonably generous however I appreciate that the scale of Scottish homes perhaps differ to American ones and I am sorry that you found your room compact.

It was a pleasure to meet you all and I hope your son continues to enjoy his employment in Edinburgh and that you had a great onward stay.

Regards Jennifer

Having stayed in B&Bs around the country and various other nations, I am seriously debating whether this is the best I have ever stayed in, I've now stayed at Alexandra Lodge about six times, and each time got a great welcome, immaculate consideration of my non-wheat foodie problem, such a high standard of fittings, cleanliness, and for breakfast - mango + melon + strawberries + grapes + more to put on my cereal - wow!
Astonished that on this site it is only rated third in Edzell - what on earth can the others be like?
Having stayed for business reasons, I am now about to go back with my wife for four nights.

we stayed over whilst completing the coast to coast ,and after doing mount keen there was no greater sight than turning into the drive and been greated by a warm welcome ,then shown through the immaculate house and up to the comfy and welcoming rooms (even had a bottle of water provided ).
then after a comfy nights sleep ,first one in a week a full breakfast was served . which was perfect .

Room Tip: they dont have a pool or fitness centre ,but it is set in a lovely quiet part of town .

Stopped over on the way through Edzell, Jennifer provided a warm welcome and took us to our well-proportioned, beautifully decorated room before taking the time to have a conversation with us. I had a most comfortable nights sleep in the cosy room, with sumptuous bedding.
The next morning, breakfast was taken in the guest lounge/dining room, where there was a delicious fresh fruit platter, with yogurts, cereals and fruit juices followed by an amazing, well cooked Scottish Breakfast. Jennifer was a lovely host and I will certainly return to Alexandra Lodge in the future.

My sister and I stayed at the Alexandra Lodge in July 2012 and we could not have had a nicer stay. Our hosts, Jennifer and Nick, provided great site-seeing advice and historical information about the area. The rooms and whole inn were lovely, and the food and company of the other guests were terrific as well. We had a couple of days for site-seeing and then had to leave from Edinburgh airport; the central location here and the recommendations from our hosts made all that very manageable. And Jennifer and Nick made sure we had a good breakfast the last day, even though we had to leave VERY early for the airport and did not expect them to go to the trouble. Their warmth and hospitality completed a very very nice stay.
