Hanayagi no Sho Keizan hotel is a traditional ryokan in Isawa onsen area, which cater mainly to local japanese guests. Service was excellent with Japanese hospitality. when we entered the hotel, we were greeted immediately, welcoming us. after checkin, we were invited to the hotel lobby which we were served the real green tea (not the tea-bag type) with the japanese snack. then we were guided to choose the yukata which we changed. Dinner was traditional keiseki dinner which was service in the room - the food was uniquely designed and very delicious especially the beef which melts in the mouth. also the outdoor onsen design is beautiful.

Likes very much
1. near the train station about 8mins walk, if you don't like to walk, they have shuttle bus service too.
a. exit from isawa onsen train station,
b. walk straight (see the Aeon shopping, it is the same path)
c. toward hotel (from the station you can see the huge Chinese character building, yes it is this building)
2. Dinner - excellent keiseki dinner - delicious and served in room
3. Service - excellent Japanese hospitality
4. Breakfast - Japanese, western, chocolate fondue, fresh fruit juices (strongly recommended the grapes juice)
only a minor issue - most staff speaks only japanese

I was told long time ago that real Japan is something different from the big cities or the most well known places, and I must say that's true. After many year my client and Friend brought me to this hotel and the experience was very nice. My opinion is more about the atmosphere and the chance to live a true Japanese experience than quality of the hotel itself. Anyway, very warm welcome, spacious tatami rooms, great hot springs and good food not influenced by western taste. Service, as usual in Japan, perfect. Drums show after dinner. The difficult for us to understand karaoke show, always present! Very good base for visiting the beautiful area around.

Best part was the onsen! I really liked the outdoor one, though the indoor was one good too. The water is supposed to be good for beautiful skin.

Location-wise, the hotel is about a 5~10 minute walk from Isawa-onsen Station, and the hotel is along the river/stream. There's an Aeon Mall near the station, so you can stock up on snacks/drinks if you need.

Rooms were average, meals was great, though breakfast was a buffet and it was really crowded when I went.
