It was a family holiday and my wife found Hakkei through Mr.Chua Lam’s book. As what was mentioned in the book, the quality of the stay, the dinner, the breakfast and the onsen were exceptional. It was very healing and I don’t think you will get tired with Chef Masahara food even if you stay here for a week. He can even prepare vegan full course meal if you request when you book the room. You can sense the passion of the owner Uwashio san. Very well run ryokan which certainly deserves five stars.

Taisengyee san,
Thank you for staying at Hakkei. Hakkei`s specialty is good food and relaxing hot spring. Providing good quality food and hospitality, with friendly environment is very important. Many guests search for better place to relax, with that you will have good food is plus. In a year i found guests staying consecutive nights at Hakkei. Chef Masahara can prepare different variety of food as per season, so you will taste different variety every next day. And dedication of the landlady (Okami san) to serve best.
Kindly come again, it was nice talking and learning about good food in Japan, prepared at Hakkei.

Super friendly, polite and helpful staff. Amazing indoor, outdoor and rooftop onsens. Room is big and the river view is stunning. The hotel offers a pick-up at the Yubara-onsen bus stop. Food is delicious. There is a karaoke room with affordable price.

Room Tip: choose the ones with river view, its stunning; there are some rooms with bed too :)

Four of us are staying at Hakkei for one night of our year end trip in Tottori and Okayama. We are impressed by Uwashio san’s sincerity and passion to the guests. She brought us seeing the snowy mountain and having yummy ice-cream and strawberries from local. Highly recommend this lovely hotel if you visit Maniwa.

Thoroughly enjoyed our restful and relaxing stay at this lovely ryokan surrounded by beautiful green mountains. Our spacious and very clean Japanese style room (which had a massage chair to boot!) overlooked the suna-yu and the lovely Asahigawa River. The in-house open air onsen was stunning! Service was impeccable and meals were excellent! Awesome experience...hope to be back again before too long!

Taking 3 hours flight from Hong Kong to Hiroshima, driving 3 hours to Hakkei in Yubara-Onsem of Okayama in Japan, spending over US$400 per night, with dinner and breakfast inclusive and not knowing or speaking any Japanese would still worth the hassle of staying at Hakkei, which serves excellent Japanese cuisine from an ex-"'Ïron Chef" of Japan. Though I did not know what it was served, I found it tasty with different layers of aroma and I knew that it was a balance diet. Not knowing Japanese means that I did not watch TV and enjoyed a very peaceful stay. The hotel has free wifi and I can be reached and can even attend video conference, should it become necessary. In addition to the hospitality service, clean and comfortable room, respectful and generally quiet customers, the hotel provides an excellent hot spring bath in the room and in the other hotel hot spring facilities. It is also facing the very well renounced Yuhara-onsen, which is in the open air and by a water stream. It is opened to the public, male and female alike, and is free of charge. Yuhara-onsen hot spring has been there for over 800 years. It was an awesome experience bathing naked in the open air together with young and old, male and female watching the stars, under snow in the winter and enjoying the famous peach and other fresh fruit of the Okayama prefecture, chatting with your wife, girl friends and even your co-workers, naked. There is no other places I know that would be able to provide me with such an enjoyment with peace and tranquility. It is an exceptional hideaway but mind you, if you are over 6 feet tall, you have to always mind your head. Hitting my head as a daily routine at the hotel has also helped to improve my emotional quotient.
