Take a Sunday in late rainy winter, gloomy, damp, what do you do? You decide to go and spend it in a Lazio farm. Take a look at Tripadvisor and based on the ratings you choose.
good choice! We arrive in this small farm under the cliff of Orte but with great views of the surrounding hills. Around all is nature and surrounded by olive trees.
To give the flavor of the farm a small sheep pen and a few goose.
We enter the stone farmhouse and welcomes us a kind and nice lady. The atmosphere is refined and warm. In ancient barn they have obtained the dining rooms. Everything is arranged with taste and warmth as you imagine in your dreams.
Our table was near the fireplace as we had requested. We are already happy without knowing what awaits for us ... the best is yet to come. Already from the menu we understand that the food here is something serious. Cooked with imagination and passion.
There are few people in the restaurant and the owner comes immediately to take orders. While we wait for our dishes she takes us out of the skins menu of fried potatoes and fried pizza both delicious and tasty.
We order two kinds of homemade ravioli from Erina grandmother: "Ravioli with a stuffing of crescenza, broccoli and almonds sautéed with duck bacon and orange peel" and the other “Ravioli stuffed with potatoes and mushrooms sautéed fried with bacon and cheese served on cream of taleggio". They are truly spectacular. Enveloping and delicate flavor.
They follow two main courses: "Boned rabbit with potatoes with fennel and sausage served on cream of taleggio" and "Pork belly sliced cooked at low temperature served with plum sauce". Divine. Then the bacon is really special. It melts in your mouth.
Accompany it all with a jug of red organic wine of the house, a Sangiovese grape. Pasty but not too robust.
To finish the meal we take the cake. Among the Tiramisu, the Chocolate cake with warm hearts and Orange and pistachio cake with custard, all homemade, we choose the latter. We not regretted it. DE.LI.CIO.US.
After lunch we decided to take a walk in the beautiful surrounding countryside. Returning we have a chat with the nice lady who told us the story of the old family house as much as 700. About of cooking passion of his son James author of the delights of the palate and their ostrich. Indeed female ostrich. Last one of a group of seven who lives free and blissful in their land. Friendly but mischievous (eat all their flowers). Unfortunately we could not see it. Then come back to meet it and still enjoy once the great food and enjoy the warm hospitality of this family.
