My friends and I came to L'anse à L'eau via a recommendation by another friend who said the beach house was the best/most beautiful experience she'd had in Haiti... L'anse à L'eau lived up to this rave review! The service, accommodation and beach were the best we have experienced in Haiti (we live/work here, and can say that with confidence!).
Elie, the owner, is a retired Haitian-American who spent his adult life in Queens, NY and went above and beyond for us: he offered me medicine when I was not feeling well, served us lunch on the house when we stayed after check-out to enjoy some final moments on the beach, and offered to arrange road/boat transport for us. The staff spoke wonderful English and were super accommodating and attentive. We were further impressed with the quality-for-price of the accommodations, which included WiFi, air conditioning, and three (delicious!) meals a day. Drinks were also very reasonably priced.
The essentially-private beach was like something out of a travel magazine. The white sand was soft and the water a type of blue that seemed almost unreal. My friends and I spent hours chatting in the calm water. For those who are athletic, the water was calm enough for open water swims, which I enjoyed daily. At night, we went out on the beach to watch the stars and were able to see the Milky Way and several shooting stars! We also had great views of the beach and sunset from the top of a ridge, where our rooms were located.
For those based in Haiti, I say 'GO!' to L'anse à L'eau for the best service/environment you will get in-country. For those looking to visit Haiti, this is a must-see destination with great service.
