Lovedale Cottages are a home-away-from-home tucked away in a quiet - but very central - part of the Hunter Valley. Not only are the cottages themselves are very well-appointed, Lovedale Cottages offers a great range of leisure activities including a golf course, mini golf, tennis and a heated indoor pool. It's a fantastic, comfortable base for exploring the Hunter.
The cottages are charmingly rustic - all timber walls and wooden decks and antique furniture. They're very well-appointed, with spa baths (two in our two bedroom cottage!), full kitchen (which comes stocked with plenty of necessities when you arrive) and huge porches for sitting outside to drink a glass of wine and watch the kangaroos. The heating and cooling are also more than adequate to cope with the Hunter Valley's weather, and there's a television and DVD player for quiet nights in.
That said, everything is so close that you're likely to spend time outside of Lovedale, too. It's an easy drive pretty much anywhere you might like to visit in the Hunter Valley - and your hosts will happily provide a map showing you how to walk to several wineries and cafes in the area.
The only disappointment for us was that the wi fi wasn't working - normally it's provided for free. This was the result of a technical problem, though, and our hosts let us know well in advance of our visit. The hosts were great - they provide the cottage and plenty of information and leave you to it, unless you need them (in which case they're very happy to help).
Lovedale Cottages are not your typical, shiny, bland hotel-style accommodation - if you want sleek, modern design you won't get it here. What you will find, instead, is cosy, country charm and plenty of convenience. We look forward to visiting again.
