Gokyuzu
Ranked #6 of 44 Restaurants in Chingford
Price range: US$6 - US$18
Description: Gökyüzü is owned and run by us, the Yavuz family, and has been since we first opened our doors to the original restaurant in the popular Green Lanes area of Harringay in 1999. We took all our expertise and passion from that first restaurant and used it to open the Chingford branch in 2015. Originally hailing from Kahramanmaras, a small village near the Mediterranean in Turkey, we arrived in the UK in the 1990s. There were plenty of Turkish restaurants and cafés in London, but we had a longing for really authentic Turkish food and wanted to show people what traditional Turkish dining is really about. To our mind it's about freshness, quality ingredients, delicately flavoured dishes, succulent meats expertly char-grilled, home-baked bread, and most of all, a very warm welcome. Our parents and uncle showed us how to prepare our favourite dishes - the dishes they'd been enjoying since childhood, cooked from recipes that were passed down the generations. While they were cooking, we set out to find the best local suppliers to ensure all our ingredients were of the very best quality possible. We still use many of those very same suppliers to this day. Some of our most popular dishes are our sharing platters, and we think that speaks volumes about our approach to Turkish dining - it encapsulates what Gökyüzü is about - everyone can try a little bit of everything and enjoy the experience of sharing food and time with others. As a family business it was vitally important to us that everyone worked well as a team. We took a lot of care in selecting great chefs and training and nurturing our staff to understand the Gökyüzü way of doing things... with warmth and generosity. In our restaurants, nothing is too much trouble. Customers are our guests: just as they would be in our own home. We hope you find Gökyüzü provides a warm, relaxed dining experience, because this is what makes for a great Turkish restaurant. We look forward to welcoming you to Gökyüzü Chingford. The Yavuz Family

Really cannot fault the food here it has been to my expectations however the service is hit and miss, waiters/waitress can barely speak or understand English and lacks behind the service you get in Green Lane/Haringey branch of Gokyuzu. Also sometimes at the end of the meal you get baklava sweets and sometimes you don’t. There is no consistency.

I went for a quick catch up with some friends. Driving there and finding a parking spot on a bank holiday was pretty easy so no complaints. We gave the host our details and was seated within 10 mins of arriving (it felt like much less because we were too busy talking in the waiting area).

We ordered Lamacun and a full platter which was more than enough food for 3 of us. Before our mains we also we got bread, salad and cacik as well as a waitress taking our drinks order straight away.

The Lamacun was nice but didn't stand out to me. However, the lamb shish on the full platter was absolutely amazing! I think my friends noticed that I was basically trying to eat them all without being too greedy. The lamb was very tender and cooked to absolute perfection. The platter as a whole tastes nice and they really don't skimp on the meat and rice. The overall service of the restaurant is also very good. We even managed to take some food home as there was so much food. The next time I'm coming to this restaurant, I will definitely be ordering the lamb shish!

I recently visited this gokyuzu restaurant as opposed to the first one I go to in harringay . It was extremely busy and it’s definitely a favourite amongst party events.

The restaurant is huge and ambles of space, if you book well in advance!

Because of such a huge party we opted for large jumbo platters.

Aside from the rice being the cold we couldn’t really fault the meat. Perhaps more shish in the platter would of been good. But nevertheless it was a lovely meal and nice way to celebrate a birthday party.

I ve just back from the restaurant in chingford north circular, it looks nice but the service wasn’t that great, we had birthday cake to have at end of the meal the waiter served the cake and the original box together,, they don’t care at all the quick you have your food and go the better, ending up paying £90 for 2 adults,2 teen,no alcohol drinks.,completely waste time and money I don’t recommend this chain of Turkish restaurant

We automatically got a basket of bread and a plate of tsakiti once we sat down. The bottle of Chilean Merlot was very drinkable. The three of us ordered fish to get away from the King Henry VIII banquet looking meat platters that everyone was ordering, that fills you up on one bite. My fish was nicely grilled and we all opted for bulgar rather than boiled potatoes. I particularly loved the side salad that came with flecks of pomegrantate, very nice.

My lemon cheesecake was underwhelming and the only downside of the meal, the biscuit base was soft, not crunchy and one of the reasons why I almost never eat cheesecake as an dessert option in the UK. The filling was lemon mousse with not a shred of cheescake flavour. I should have gone for the sticky toffee pudding but it was too heavy after a large meal.

One minor gripe is to please TURN DOWN THE MUSIC; the louder the music the louder everyone talks. It seems to be endemic in the UK; the incessant noise when eating, more so since this place is huge with a constant stream of customers entering and leaving. It's not in the most accessible place either but it pulls a crowd especially with its huge car park. Nonetheless, it was nice and I would have no problem returning. Our waitress was nice too.
