Fabulous pale sandy beach and deep turquoise sea. Carbis Bay is a wonderful place that feels like it is in a different country. It takes you miles away from the stresses and strains of life. It is a great beach for families with children as it has toilets, a shop and a cafe and the beach is very safe and sheltered.

It is right next to the South West Coast Path so it is possible to have a fabulous short walk into St Ives (very steep up by Carbis Bay Hotel but after that nice and easy going). It is also possible to walk around to Porthkidney Sands when the tide is out. Walks in either direction are fantastic. The best view is from the railway footbridge just a bit further up from the Carbis Bay Hotel in the direction of St Ives.

Carbis Bay is also a wonderful place to stay with lots of different types of holiday accommodation from houses to apartments. If you do decide to stay there, make sure you get a property that has a sea view and you will be rewarded with an ever changing seascape, a simply stunning spectacle every minute of the day. Carbis Bay is a little oasis of calm far from the madding crowd of St Ives (wonderful wonderful place, just very busy). After a day of sightseeing or whatever else you are doing on your holiday, to come back to Carbis Bay after such a full on day is wonderfully relaxing.

The station at Carbis Bay is also very handy for getting to and from St Ives on the St Ives Branch Line train. It is definitely worth getting a Day Ranger Ticket and having a ride up and down the line as this is a fantastic train journey with amazing coastal views. The train is also very handy for getting back to Carbis Bay again after a hard day's shopping and sightseeing in St Ives.

Carbis Bay and St Ives are faultess, lovely beaches and atmosphere.
However, I noticed a review posted from someone in Nottingham and this is where Carbis Bay Holidays are based - while I would go to the area again I would not use Carbis Bay Holidays:

We paid £1200 for a week in August 2007 and were told one week before we departed that there was building work next door.
The site was actually also linked to Carbis Bay Holidays and so they knew what was happening but gave us no opportunity to cancel.
The site worked from 8am, we had a balcony but couldn't use it because of workmen and cement lorries etc passing directly below it. We had to keep the bedroom curtains closed (the place was split level so the bedrooms appeared at ground level) because workmen were passing on all sides.
We phoned Carbis Bay Holidays to complain and they weren't interested, we followed it up from home and were just offered a discount on a future booking.

Also, we found that on the first night the door wouldn't unlock from inside, obviously a very dangerous if there was a fire, we phoned the 24 hour number but it turned out that the cleaner who was the contact was on a night out. We had to shout from the balcony to get a passer by the unlock the door. We phoned Carbis Bay Holidays who told us it would be ok to leave the door unlocked all night - this was just after Madeline McGann disappeared and we had two young children with us.

As its just a 5 minute train ride or short walk into St Ives from Carbis Bay I'd recommend staying there if you can. There are some lovely apartments overlooking Carbis Bay, but book with a local company. The Carbis Bay Hotel had also just built some apartments. We also stayed at Tregena Castle another time, half way between the two, which was lovely but expensive. August is expensive, if you can go earlier it will be so much cheaper.

We have always thought of St Ives as idyllic but to avoid the crowds we stayed at these fabulous apartments at nearby Carbis Bay. Quieter and yet within easy reach of St Ives ( 3 minutes by train) and the rest of Cornwall, Carbis Bay was magical. Directly overlooking the beach with views across St Ives Bay from St Ives to Godrevy Ligthouse. We booked the apartments on the website, the accommodation was outstanding, every attention had been paid to detail with extra luxuries such as whirlpool bath and icemaker. One of our best ever holiday experiences. We'll be back.

A lovely, quiet beautiful beach - more tranquil than St.Ives, yet you can walk there from here. V. steep climb up to the hotels though!! Felt miles away from the noise here - a special place.
