What a fantastic restaurant, we found it less than a 100 metres along the beach from our accommodation.
The food i ate was absolutely beautiful, raw fish starter and pan fried Mahi mahi.
And because we were dinning on the beach under a coconut tree we also indulged in one too many cocktails.
Beautiful just beautiful.
Kia Orana!!!

Vaima is recommended by many people on the island of Rarotonga and you can see why. From the varied and yet simple menu, to the staff and the location, it delivers a great experience every time. We dined here during our stay in 2013 and the hotel has been rebuilt due to a fire, but retains its excellent reputation because quite simply, they do food well.

We first visited The Vaima few years ago and found it was quite good. It had been recommended by the owners of the Villa we stayed in.
We went back a year ago and it had been renovated. At this point it was very bare and the service was poor . We put it down to maybe they were in the middle of renovating etc.
We went again this year . The week of the 14th of July .
It was just the same. We waited over an hour for our meals . The restaurant wasn’t full !
When our meals arrived they had obviously been sitting for quite a while . My potatoes were bland and stone cold . My chicken was over cooked and tough and the cheese that had oozed out of the middle of the chicken had dried solid on the plate and was cold .
We ate what we could as by the time it arrived we were starving !
The waitress asked with a smirk on her face ‘How were your meals ? ‘ My husband told her “ Not great “ she just grinned and walked away .
My husband had ordered a glass of wine which never appeared . We decided to leave and give up.
He told the girl at the till that the wine hadn’t arrived and she didn’t say a word . No apology , just sorted the bill out .
Maybe we were unlucky and both years just happened to go on a bad night .
We definitely will not go again . We did hear from a few others that they were not impressed . Compared with some of the other restaurants we ate at who delivered great service and great food the Vaima was a big disappointment .

Love sitting on the beach and eating the local food. Had a nice cold noodle salad and some sliders. Good value.

Seafood curry, the signature dish, with fish, prawns and scallops in yellow curry was good, although I wouldn't rush back to have it again. My wife liked her poached fish, which had complex but delicate flavours, and cooked just right. My daughter had the scallops, seared and served on roast pumpkin and turmeric risotto, and thought it was okay.
We shared two deserts which were the creme brulee and key lime. The brulee was superb, but the key lime was average.
