This is a Downton Abbey-style house, a large country estate with clearly delineated public, private, and service space. We all congregated in the kitchen, part of the service space. It's very well-appointed, and served as a great place to put together fabulous meals with products gleaned from the local markets.
It is in a bit of disrepair: it needs at least one full-time gardener, and several other people to clean and maintain the hardware on a daily basis. It has Sebastian, who does his level best, is very responsive, and answers accompanied by a very friendly and well-behaved Australian Shepherd, "Lioco."
More than half the house is not used. There are no locks, so one can go exploring and creating legends about ghosts wandering about the place . . .
The important parts of the house work wonderfully well: the bathrooms are clean, the bedrooms well-furnished. The pool is a delight.
It served as a wonderful headquarters for our invasion of the Dordogne and Périgord regions.
