“It truly is just all about love”
Reviewed 4 weeks ago for a stay in May 2018

The moment we drove through the gates of DDG we were somehow able to instantly leave our busy lives behind us and enter a world that truly is all about love and romance It's hard to find the words to describe the feeling we both had when walked on to our private terrace of the royal suite, breathtaking and goosebumps. Complete unadulterated privacy. Time for just the two of us. The facilities and staff just add to this amazing and romantic experience, infinity pool, saunas and the wonderful sharing platters, that are brought to your private terrace, I cannot underestimate the effect this place had had on my wife and I. If you are debating whether or not to book, as it may be a little pricey for some people’s budget, STOP worrying about money, life is too short. Book it NOW you will not regret it. We also received complimentary champagne and a complimentary mini bar in our suite, the breakfast was also amazing. A truly unique place!!! Our only regret is we were unable to stay longer, something we will definitely be rectifying in the future as WE WILL be returning. Thank you to Darias mother who was also amazing.

It is the perfect getaway for couples. Whether it is for a celebration, to spice up the relationship, or simply for a quiet time, DDG retreat has it all. The place is incredible. DDG completely blew our expectations. The views are AMAZING. Everything about the place is exquisite. They are very professional and open-minded. If you are looking to relax and reconnect with your loved one, look no further. Promise, you won't regret it. I personally can not wait to go back. :)

“Paradise in the mountains”
Reviewed 26 September 2017 for a stay in September 2017

We were excited to stay at the DDG retreat as we had heard alot about his little place via friends and i had seen photos on Facebook and internet, but nothing could have prepared us for what we saw when we arrived. The most stunning location with incredible views over the beautiful town of Casares and onto the Rock of Gibraltar. The infinity Pool took our breath away, along with steam room and Sauna. The thing i liked most about the place was the incredible chilled out vibe, from the decor through to the sounds of nature as there are no roads or buildings close to the retreat. We stayed in the Royal tent which was pricey but well worth it.
nothing beats sitting in your own private hot-tub with an incredible view staring at the stars at night.
the shower and cinema in the tent were great additions, overall just an incredible place. Highly recommended and we will be back soon!

“A Perfect Paradise …. Nowhere better”
Reviewed 19 September 2017 for a stay in September 2017

We’ve just arrived back after six nights at DDG Retreat and in trying to share our thoughts on Trip Advisor, we’ve realised that words just don’t do justice to this breathtakingly beautiful, utterly peaceful, one-of-a-kind, very special slice of paradise. It’s also difficult to take photos that sum it up – a lens can’t easily capture the scale of the place and its context in the mountains; the jaw-dropping views that reach as far as our eyes could see; the stars that twinkled overhead as we soaked in the outdoor bath; the sheer expanse of the beautiful, exotic grounds (which we seemed to have to ourselves even though there were other guests staying). Most of all, it is impossible to fully convey the deep sense of pure peace that hit us from the moment we arrived, sending our plans to explore the area into disarray because once there, we found we simply didn’t want to drag ourselves away. Even our final breakfast there, which should have been a rushed affair before our relatively early departure for the airport, turned out to be thoroughly relaxing. Olga’s delicious home-cooked breakfast - accompanied by Cava (unexpectedly indulgent served with fluffy omelette and baby pancakes) and the dulcet tones of Sade playing in the background – was a fitting way to end our short escape from reality.

So, for the negatives. There are none that we can think of. We stayed in Marahja and wow! We arrived not knowing quite what to expect, we wouldn’t normally book a ‘tent’ holiday but as I think some other reviewers have also commented, this gorgeous suite is as far away from camping or glamping as it is possible to be. It is pure luxury. The interiors are stunning and the finishes are well thought out. We marvelled at the gorgeous marble floor that seemed to keep the place cool however hot the weather (there is also air conditioning). The space overall is beyond anything we have had in a hotel and incorporates a very generous terrace that in addition to all the indoor facilities, has its own plunge pool, outdoor bath and shower, an outside living and dining area with gas barbeque (we cooked steaks one night, sea bass another), and a sun lounger for two people that doubles up as a daybed or a great place for watching the sunset or for star-gazing.

It would have been easy to just not move from Maharja but we did venture down sometimes to the infinity pool area which looks just as it does on the website. The views from the roof terrace there are definitely worth the effort of walking up the few steps. We also wandered to the tennis courts but couldn’t summon the energy to play!

Service is excellent but as privacy is highly respected there, it is discreet. There are only three suites at DDG Retreat, but from what we saw, there’s practically one member of staff for every guest. Everything is so well-kept and sparkly clean, yet not sanitised. We were happy to be left to ourselves most of the time – but whatever we needed was catered for (including the loan of an egg-boiler and egg cups for DIY breakfasts on some days) and it was great to know that we could order sharing platters for lunch or dinner, which we can highly recommend.

If you’re reading this and feel the need to get away from it all for a short time, or to enjoy a romantic break, or to mark a special occasion (it was our belated wedding anniversary celebration), then there’s nowhere better than we can think of. We would say DDG Retreat is one of Europe’s best-kept secrets.

“Unique place”
Reviewed 10 September 2017 for a stay in September 2017

We had a absolutely fantastic time at DDG Retreat. We stayed at the new maharaja tent. It was so fine! The tent had everything you want and need. So your only concern is to enjoy your stay and the unique view.
Plus Daria and her staff does everything to make sure that you have a lovely stay. We differently come back.
