“A family and cyclists paradise (well almost!)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 May 2012

We have been taking family Holidays (on and off) at LPO since 2004/5ish. This year will be our third in a row, at the request of the children who totally love being there. They have so much freedom on a site that is very safe and secure. They have relished the opportunity to mix with teenagers from the UK, Holland, Switzerland and France. The atmosphere on site is very relaxed and everyone aims to get along with their neighbours really well.

There is always a very warm welcome from all the staff and nothing is too much of a problem. The children's and teen's activities are all of very high standards and there is always plenty for them to engage with. The football coach run by Kick London is always a big highlight for our son.

As a very keen cyclist the area is very good for excellent trips out and about, however it is rather flat, so if you are looking for mountain challenges then head for the Alps or Pyrenees! The Vendee has hundred of kilometres of cycles ways but most of these need a trekking or lightweight MTB. The Vendee tourist board produce an excellent cycle guide with all the routes and suggested rides listed. Well worth requesting your free copy before you get LPO (only available in French). While we have been at LPO there has always been an early morning group ride to a local cafe for breakfast. What better way to start the day.

As mentioned in other posts this is a campsite run by a Christian organisation (Springharvest) please do not let this put you off. For those who have been to Spring Harvest in the UK LPO is nothing like it. The typical day consists of a morning talk for about 1 hour (totally optional) and an evening celebration (totally optional) and a Sunday morning service (yes you guessed it totally optional). You are on holiday so dip in and out as you want. The speakers when we have been have all been excellent so they are well worth dropping in to hear.

Not interested in church or not a christian well do not worry, everyone is made to feel at home and welcome, no in your face stuff to worry about. Just kick back and relax and let your family enjoy the freedom and peaceful surroundings.

The site has an excellent restaurant with high quality french cooking. The takeaway food is prepared to the same standard as the restaurant, which is top draw.

The small shop has just enough things for bare essentials but most importantly it provides fresh pastries and bread every morning.

Would we recommend it? Well lets just say our teenagers want to go again this year and for four weeks!!

We came back here last summer for the 11 days special (excellent value) after a break of 3 years. Such a warm welcome, well maintained park. Hi quality accommodation. Great children's clubs. Daughter (14) made loads of new friends and we are booked in again for this summer.
Great evening entertainment including quiz night and wine tasting. Located in a great part of France with loads of wonderful towns and beaches close by to visit.

This was our first visit to LPO, and certainly I would like to go back - whether it is for the Houseparty I am not too sure. The site is smaller than I expected, but I understand it can hold up to 1,300 during the main season - which I will definitely be avoiding!

The Houseparty week had a more reasonable 170ish, and is adult only, so as a consequence it is fairly quiet. On the plus side, it is a very relaxed atmosphere, and there is plenty for people to do if they follow the programme, and take part in all the activities - although if you do then you will find it is a costly week. On the negative side, if you are unable to join all the activities due to disability or because of cost, then you will find that there is not much to do on site. Luckily, we had our car, so were able to use LPO as a base to explore the Vendee, and had a great week.

I have to say that the evening teaching was excellent, and the other guests we spoke to were as friendly as you would expect at a Christian event. I would however agree with one of the previous reviewers that it can be a little cliquey, as many of the people who attend this event have done so for several years and groups tend to have formed before the end of the first night.

Overall though, an enjoyable week, and some great teaching.

We were convinced by friends about this site, at first the thought of a 'christian holiday site' sounded the opposite of a holiday for us but we researched a bit more and glad we did! The site is situated in the Vendee right next to St Gilles which is a lovely town - in easy reach of lots of great days out - arty town of Sallertaine and town and lake of Apremont - an hour and a half gets you to the amazing Puy du Fou or the fab beaches of Noirmoutier. A car is really a necessity IMO to get the most out of the area. The site itself is well run - nice outdoor pool, good small restaurant and pizza takeaway, bar serving decent beer and good wines and bakery on site, play areas and nice walk along the river from the site (safely fenced off to avoid kids getting access). We stayed in one of the mid-price caravans which was fine. Nice family vibe on site - the christian bit wasn't too in-your face and you could take it or leave it. Definitely not 'twee' or stuffy. Planning a return visit next year which is a first for us.

I went to Houseparty in 2010 on my own and made loads of new friends and had a great time. Good variety of excursions and great service from the staff. The restaurant served very good food and the takeaway was a reasonable quality. Seriously considering returning this year.

I couldn't agree with Tiny_Tim more. We hads an utterly wonderful time in such a positive family atmosphere. It was our first visit and we have booked to return this August and can't wait!
We explored the beautiful area for two weeks of glorious weather. Our children loved the clubs and pool, we felt totally refreshed and challenged by the Bible study; a renewed passion which has lasted throughout the year.
We made so many fantstic new friends whom we are meeting again this year - loved it!
