Quite big hotel near to glacier with own taxi service to slopes. Despite the fact the hotel is a bit older, it is well maintained. Excellent spa facilities and very good food. The only thing I did not liked was the bar with smoking staff. You could smell it far away.

This was our second stay at the hotel as part of a large group for a weeks early skiing in December
Everything about this family run hotel is excellent. The food is good, the rooms are large, clean and very comfortable and the staff are very helpful and friendly

There are superb sauna and steam room facilities as well as a large swimming pool

Looking forward to my next trip at the end of the year

I have been back 3 times now to ski in the first week of December and each time the hotel seems to get better. The rooms are large and well fitted out although not really luxurious. We were on half board and the food and service were excellent. Put this together with the excellent spa area for reviving after a day on the slopes, the shuttle service to and from the lifts and the great Austrian apres-ski atmosphere in the Tenne pub at the base of the lifts (also run by the Hohenhaus) makes it a great place for a skiing holiday.

We were part of a large group that has returned to the Hohenhaus for several years. Our room was very comfortable and there was plenty of storage space. The food was probably even better this year than before and the staff have always been very friendly and helpful. There is a lovely relaxing pool, sauna and jacuzzi area (and also several other fitness facilities which we never got near to using!).
The availability of transport to the ski base was a real boon. We will definitely be returning.

The room was big, clean and in working order.
The spa area is fairly large and had a number of different saunas all nicely made, but there were no hot baths / whirlpools, which we could have used after a long day on the ski slops.
The restaurant is fine, but not gourmet class.
The hotel provides a shuttle to the skilift, and you can ski almost back to the hotel.
All in all a good exprience.

Hohenhaus is located in Hintertux, close to the Hintertux glacier, where skiing is reliable all year round. Rates are vary over the year, with great bargains in off season. Highly reccommended, since skiing conditions here usually are great at all times. High probability of meeting several national teams here, in summer and autumn, when other european ski slopes are closed. Good hotel with indoor swimming pool and several (7!) saunas of different sorts. A multi-person spa offers a spectacular view of the mountain area.

Room Tip: For best view, select a room on the mountain side of the hotel.

We spent four days at Alpenbad Hohenhaus a month ago.

The place is acceptable, but nothing close to be spectacular.
The hotel building is located at the steep slope, so in result there is not so much windows (and daylight inside) in public areas (corridors, dining buffet, dining rooms). This makes you also feel as if there is not enough fresh air...

I am not picky about the food at all, but this time I must say that dinners were often disappointing, sad looking and tasteless. I had the worst wienerschnitzel of my life here - grey colour, thin as a paper, almost cold. Those who like wienerschitzel would know how great fun it can be if prepared with care. Not here. Also generally, main courses were boring, with side salads consisting of just few boiled little items. Not much in common with the little pieces of dining art which cooks and chiefs compose in other hotels in the region.

As to the wellness area - there is a jaccuzzi, and good and quite big swimming pool ( it is bigger that in comparagble hotels). But sauna part is small, poorly arranged and generally noisy. There are 8-10 daybeds there, but they do not offer any silent comfort, as are located just in the same space where saunas, in generally busy area where people keep walking and talking....
The spacious relax area (with some 30 daybeds) is located VERY far away from saunas, below the pool level. So you would not want to go that far to rest during the break of your sauna treatments. Also, dissapointingly, there is no door (just open stairway) between this big relax area and the pool (which is generally loud, as in any hotel). So even if you get there to relax after sauna, the silence there is questionable.

The staff in the dining area and the night bar are just ok. They do not care much, do not come to you to ask if you need anything, seem to be not interested.

Rooms are spacious, but look tired. I would say that also the whole hotel needs renovation, so that it perhaps it would deserve the four stars they currently have.

The good thing is that this hotel seems to be open virtually all the year round (also when other hotels close for several weeks). So if you want to go skiing on the glacier at the time when others are close, you can go there if you do not expect too much. Also, as the hotel is located far from the main road, it is generally silent at night there, good for light sleepers.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Above the roofs of Hintertux - on the sunny side with the best view of the glacier The Alpenbadhotel Hohenhaus is situated away from the high street but still in a central location in Hintertux. Offering the best view of the imposing Hintertux Glacier, the Hohenhaus is located in a uniquely beautiful, sunny, and quiet spot. The Hintertux Glacier cable car is only 3 minutes away. As the only hotel in Hintertux we take our guests directly to the bottom station with our "Hohenhaus Express". From there, you can also visit the second large-scale ski area in the region, the "Ski and Glacier World Zillertal 3000" (about 10 minutes on the Tux sport bus). Downhill on the "Schwarze Pfanne" slope you can ski right to our hotel from the end of November to the middle of April, on a path that branches off from the main downhill slope, used by walkers as well as skiers. The Hohenhaus is ideally suited for winter walkers, toboggan riders, or dog owners. The illulminated "Hintertux Panorama Path" starts just outside the hotel and leads straight to the bottom station of the glacier cable car (about 30 min). In addition, the walking path to the toboggan hut "Bichlalm" also starts behind the Hohenhaus (about 1 hour). The Hohenhaus is well known for its spacious wellness area. The "Alpenbad" thermal bath and the sauna village "Old Hintertux" (7 different saunas) were built in a unique and distinctive style; more about that in "Wellness and Spa". We would be very happy to be able to welcome you at our hotel. All the best from Hintertux, and the team of the Alpenbadhotel Hohenhaus ... more   less
