We stayed at Abate Masseria for 10 days in late Sept/October and had a fantastic time. Our first trip to this region of Italy, we found the people we encountered friendly and helpful. It is not a ‘tourist’ area, and with the exception of Unesco site Alberobello which had a few souvenir shops, we felt we lived an Italian life for our stay.

The hotel and on-site restaurant Il Briale were excellent. Everyone was helpful and kind, especially Angelica & Christina at reception, who we saw most. Breakfast was good with an extensive range of food – loved the limone jam! The bedrooms are converted farm buildings and are very comfy and clean. We had a junior suite in a trullo for part of our stay which was the highlight of our trip – very well restored and furnished in keeping with a historic building. The grounds are well kept and the clean pool area is a lovely, quiet spot to relax after a day out.

We mixed eating in and eating out. Il Briale was very good with a small menu of local dishes (the antipasti was favourite, though we had to share between two as it was quite a large portion), fabulous steaks and very good wines, most of them local, but also a large range of pizzas – very popular in the region. Other restaurants, recommended by Angelica & Christina, were also very good, L’Antica Locanda, Al Boschetto, PiazzAntica and Eno wine bar. (Eno was more of a bistrot but the food, especially the antipasti was superb and the décor was modern and interesting.) We were lucky to be there for the Funghi festival in Noci. Apart from difficulties parking (the centre of town is closed off for the festivities), it was a happy, family celebration with dancing in the main piazza, stalls and street food through the main part of town and folk music and dancing in a smaller piazza. It went on until late in the night.

Thank you to all staff for making our holiday special. We enjoyed our stay very much and hope to return to this beautiful part of Italy.
June & Felix

Room tip: All lovely, but the Junior suite trullo is super-special.

We stayed here in September for just under a week. Lovely Masseria and very helpful staff. The rooms are really nice and spacious and have plenty of character. The restaurant nearby is great and taxi's can easily be arranged into the town for an evening meal. Very relaxing place to stay & quiet I would highly recommend for a quiet holiday and good location for visiting other nearby towns by car! An excellent place to stay.

What a great place to stay. We stayed in a type of a trulli which had 2 bedrooms, lounge room plus bathroom. It was perfect. We didn’t have a car so walked into the town which took about 30 minutes. We ordered takeaway at night because the restaurant was closed which was a bit annoying. If I did this trip again I’d have based myself here and hired a car from the nearby car rental place. It really was a fabulous place to come back to after a day exploring . The staff were so very kind and extremely helpful. I’d highly recommend staying here and I’m fussy!!

We stayed here for 6 nights at the start of a month touring Italy. The room was clean and comfortable although the wall mounted hairdryer was rubbish. My pet hate! The staff were lovely particularly Christina who was really helpful during our stay. It has a lovely pool and is very quiet during the day. The restaurant is really popular with large groups in the evening so book if you want to eat there. It is run by another family and the menu is not extensive. But what we did eat was extremely tasty and well priced. Loads of pizza options which seem standard for this part of Italy! Good wine list. There is no bar as such. A pool bar was set up during our stay with limited options for drinks. It lacks a bit of atmosphere to be honest but if you want a quiet place to stay it is a good option. The nearby town of Noci does not have a lot going on but if you don’t mind a drive it is well located for Alberobello, Martina Franca etc.

Dear Lynnemoo,
We are sorry about the broken wall mounted hair dryer.
If we had known that, we could have changed it with a new one.
it's important for us to know every disappointing note, remarkable or not.
So, for that, a double thank you for your review.
The staff of Abate Masseria.
