We decided not to stay in Santander, but to choose a place just a little further away, so we didn’t have to stay in a big city.

Solares is far from a beautiful town, but that is not the point. It’s a very quick drive into Santander, and very well located to be able to branch out to the other places you’d like to visit in the region.
We have been in so many big cities over the years, that we really wanted to avoid another one.

The hotel itself is a converted small mansion, turned into a monastery, turned into a lovely place to stay. There is a courtyard in the front, that is perfect for sitting around when you want to relax. The breakfast, which came with our room, is simple but just right. No hot food, but good cereals, fresh meats and cheese, very good bread and other sweet pastries to eat. In addition, the coffee is excellent. There is a small room off the lobby that may have been a bar in a past life, where they make the coffee, and make modest alcoholic beverages available.

The staff is minimal, but very accommodating. The room itself, I think we had the smallest one, was just fine. Relatively small, with a very nice and modern bathroom. We choose not to watch any television when we travel, But those who do want to watch will be disappointed that there was only a very small computer monitor in the room. But who comes to this gorgeous region to watch TV!?!

Parking was easy to find in the lot just behind the hotel.

So all in all, this place is strongly recommended for what it says it is, which is quite modest place, but elegant and done close to perfection.

It’s nestled right up against some high rise flats yet as soon as you pass through it’s gated tall walls you could easily be mistaken for thinking you’re in the middle of the countryside. It’s a fabulous old building that’s been tastefully modernised inside. The rooms are modern and spotless whilst for me the food is the stand out feature of this hotel. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay near Santander there can’t be many better options.

Not too far from Santander, this hotel is in Solares proper and the decor is modern in a historic building. Huge bathrooms and decent size bedrooms with a bar downstairs and a breakfast room as well as a terrace which must be lovely when the weather is nice. The breakfast which was included in the price of the room was varied and good.

I stayed only for one night but I had a pleasant time, definitively coming back in the future to go sightseeing around the North of Spain. It is quite but very well located.
An overall excellent experience and superb service!

We stayed here after leaving the ferry at Santander. The greeting at reception could not have been bettered and we were made to feel so welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were large, airy, very clean as were the bathrooms.the beds were very comfortable and the towels large and luxurious. Breakfast was excellent. There was nothing we could have asked to be done better, especially at the price. We only passed through so cannot say much about the town itself other than it seemed pleasant enough. However the hotel is just fabulous and I'd recommendit to anyone.
