Owner description: A partnership between the Royal Air Force and Lincolnshire County Council provides public access to the home of the RAF Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight at RAF Coningsby. The RAF BBMF hangar is located within the boundaries of RAF Coningsby and viewing the flight’s historic aircraft at close quarters is available only by guided tour. You will be shown around the hangar by volunteer guides, many of whom have first hand experience of the aircraft. They give freely of their time, being keen to ensure the public appreciate this living tribute to all RAF aircrew and ground crew who gave their lives in the Second World War .

I drove from London and it took a while but for a Spitfire and warbird lover it didnt disappoint. Generally i like to self tour but this option isnt available however the tour of the hangar was good. Aircraft were being moved into hangar at the end of a flying day. If you want to see something in particular it is recommended that you may want to contact bbmf to see what aircraft are there and whether they will be flying. Typhoons were flying from Coningsby as well.

There are few words to say, that haven’t been said before, regarding the ordinary men and women who have so much in the conflict of the Second World War, to express the sacrifice they made. However our guide, James, added comment, story and commentary to widen views and comment on the RAF. This was a truly wonderful experience on a working base so there was plenty of flying going on to make it even more memorable. To see these wonderful aircraft, Spitfire, Hurricane & Lancaster was just incredible and the whole experience enhanced the view that this group of dedicated persons who keep these iconic planes flying must get the interest and finance to keep it going. Thank you to all at The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight for a memorable experience.

We were lucky to be in the right place just as the Lancaster was landing which added greatly to our visit, she virtually flew over or head at zero feet.
If you have any interest in historic aircraft you must visit this place, but make sure before hand that they aren't away on display as they are the main attraction.
access is restricted and of course they are very strict in enforcing this, no bags allowed but we were on bikes and they did offer to put our lids behind the counter.
I did have some concerns regarding the info the volunteer guide was telling the group which wasn't entirely accurate, but in other respects he was a good guide.
if you want to get even closer to a Lanc don't forget "Just Jane" is not far down the road.

We arrived to take the 1200 tour, it was amazing. James was our guide as the Lancaster and Hurricanes were due back from a training sortie we were taken airside to watch them arrive, we were within touching distance and the Lancaster captains came over to say hello and photos. James was very knowledgeable and helpful. We both enjoyed our visit and had silly smiles on our faces afterwards we were so lucky with our timing. We have travelled up from Cornwall for the week and will be recommending a visit to here to everyone. Thank you for a first class day.

We traveled from North Wales especially to visit this museum as we are a member. It was very easy to find and had plenty of free parking. There were only 4 people on our tour so it was easy to hear everything and to ask questions. We headed out to the hangar and thoroughly enjoyed the next hour plus. We saw the spitfires and hurricanes and as well as the Chipmunk, Dakota C47 and the Lancaster that we were particularly keen to see having seen the other one in Hamilton Ontario many times. It was interesting to see the engineers working on them and disappointing to hear how few of them there are with those skills working on the planes with there limited budget. These planes need to preserved. There is also an informative display in the visitors centre as well as the shop and toilet. There was no cafe facilities but for enthusiasts it is easy to spend the morning her and the afternoon at The Lincolnshire Aviation Centre which has an excellent cafe.
